Additional Options During Room Search
If matchmaking takes too long, the system will automatically suggest game modes with higher player counts and ask if players want to switch to these modes. Specifically, as shown in the image below, the system suggests Squad and 1-Man-Squad modes when players have waited too long without finding Solo rooms. Players can choose to continue waiting or switch to other modes for easier matchmaking.
In addition to the above suggestions, the system will consider various factors such as playtime in different modes, the number of PUBG players in the region, and the activity in other modes. Then it will provide the most suitable recommendations for players, with the ultimate goal of quickly and appropriately placing players into matches.
Implementing Region-Based Matchmaking
PUBG has players worldwide, each region with its own gaming style. Focusing on this core aspect, PUBG Corp has analyzed the characteristics and trends of each region, categorizing player interests into 3 levels: normal, moderate, and highly interested. Consequently, PUBG Corp has adjusted the matchmaking system based on these levels.
1. Regions with Normal Waiting Impact
FEATURED MAP
With Featured Map, the system will suggest any distinctive map currently most favored by players, hoping that the suggestion will often include the newest map or one that has recently undergone renovation, such as the upcoming Erangel. Featured Map will only be suggested for a certain period of time.
PRESET MATCH
With Preset Match, the system will provide players with some additional options.
- Preset Match offers various gaming sessions including: TPP/Squad/4 Maps (4 Sessions) and FPP/Squad/4 Maps (4 Sessions). In total, there are 8 gaming sessions for players to join immediately.
- Preset Match is only applicable when players join solo and enter a random Squad. Preset will not be suggested if players are already in a 4-person team.
- Preset Match has no waiting lobby; once there are at least 80 players, they will automatically enter the match.
- Once the match begins, different gaming sessions will appear to replace the completed session.
- Preset Match is considered a regular match; players still receive full BP, SP, XP when participating.
3. Region heavily affected by matchmaking wait times
That would be the OC/SA region, which is the most heavily affected region in terms of matchmaking wait times with very long wait times. PUBG Corp has not yet found an optimal solution for this region, so the system will temporarily suggest random selection for all maps and all game modes so that they can find a room to play as quickly as possible. PUBG Corp will continue to seek solutions for the loyal players of this region in the future.
Matchmaking remains a rather challenging issue not only for PUBG but also for many other shooting games. But at least PUBG Corp has made it very clear that they are always trying to change to improve game quality further, and the matchmaking system changes mentioned above promise to be the most effective in the upcoming BIG UPDATE 4.1.
