'A Haunting In Venice' promises to be the most mysterious and terrifying case that detective Hercule Poirot has ever faced.
Official images and the first teaser trailer for the mysterious murder mystery 'A Haunting in Venice' have been unveiled at CinemaCon 2023 in Las Vegas, USA. This is the third film about the renowned detective Hercule Poirot by director Kenneth Branagh, who has also portrayed the lead role since the first film 'Murder on the Orient Express' in 2017. Distributed by 20th Century Studios, the new film is described as a 'terrifying supernatural mystery' and is based on the novel 'Hallowe'en Party' by writer Agatha Christie.
As the suggestive title implies, the story of 'A Haunting in Venice' is set in the city of Venice in the aftermath of World War II, where Hercule Poirot is now retired, living in seclusion in one of the most glamorous cities in the world. On a Halloween night, Poirot reluctantly attends a seance at a reputedly haunted palace. When one of the guests is murdered, the Belgian detective once again embarks on a perilous journey in search of the truth.
The adaptation of 'Hallowe'en Party' marks a somewhat different step from Kenneth Branagh's previous films. Specifically, 'Murder on the Orient Express' and 'Death on the Nile' are both based on Agatha Christie's most famous novels. The mysterious murder story set on Halloween by her is often overlooked and considered one of the lesser Poirot novels. However, Branagh has shared that he is ready to face the challenge and create a special film from this novel.
Characters in 'A Haunting in Venice'From what is seen in the first trailer, 'A Haunting in Venice' seems to carry a darker, more chilling tone than its predecessors. Moreover, it also employs supernatural elements to add to the mysterious and ominous atmosphere for the audience. Another noteworthy point is that while the previous two films were relatively faithful adaptations of the original novels, this new film seems to have more changes. One of the noticeable changes is that the story's setting has been shifted from England to Italy.
In addition to Kenneth Branagh sitting in the director's chair and reprising his role as Hercule Poirot, 'A Haunting in Venice' will feature the acting talents of many famous actors such as Tina Fey, Dương Tử Quỳnh, Jamie Dornan, Kyle Allen, Camille Cottin, Jude Hill, Ali Khan, Emma Laird, Kelly Reilly, and Riccardo Scamarcio. The film is scheduled to begin its theatrical release on September 15, 2023.
