Specifically, the developers of Diablo 4 believe it's reasonable for gamers to take a break after completing the in-game content.
For electronic game developers, maintaining motivation, the thirst for exploration, and curiosity for gamers are crucial. However, this doesn't seem entirely accurate for Diablo 4. Instead of trying to please player opinions, Blizzard recently surprised everyone by suggesting its fans take a break if they find Diablo 4 a bit dull and monotonous.
In particular, Joseph Piepiora, the Deputy Director of the game, recently advised gamers who have completed all the goals they consider important to take a break. Joseph also believes this is entirely normal, and the Diablo 4 development team will do the same. Moreover, Diablo 4 players can come back when new seasonal updates begin, introducing fresh content lines. This aligns with Blizzard's philosophy of always wanting players to feel renewed, delighted, and experience a new beginning each time they enter the game.
Joseph's idea, while potentially sparking controversy, has been applied by many similar games. A notable example is Final Fantasy 14, where the game producer even shares tips for gamers to maintain motivation. This involves playing freely when a new game is released, taking a break, and then returning to immerse themselves in passion when new content is introduced. However, for Diablo 4 gamers, this might seem a bit extravagant as they admit that, since level 50, the items, loot, or dungeon system of the game have seen little innovation, becoming repetitive and causing boredom. Therefore, not everyone has the stamina and patience to complete ultimate goals like defeating Lilith or conquering the level 100 nightmare dungeon.
While it's easy to advise players to take a break after achieving all goals and completing challenges at the highest difficulty levels, the reality is that, with the game structure of Diablo 4, players will be drained before addressing either of the two issues mentioned. Perhaps in the future, Blizzard will simplify everything on the journey to reach player level 100. At the current moment, the lack of investment in content after completing the main storyline is becoming a significant issue in Diablo 4.
