Projected Reopening of Điện Biên Airport on December 2, 2023
Điện Biên Airport closed for upgrades and expansion on April 15, 2023. However, due to the project progressing ahead of schedule, Điện Biên Airport will be completed and permitted by the Ministry of Transport to resume operations on December 2, 2023.
In readiness for the restoration of flights to Điện Biên, the Civil Aviation Authority instructs Vietnamese airlines to research and develop operational plans, organize ticket sales to meet passenger travel needs. The Authority also requires the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) to promptly equip additional meteorological observation systems, communication devices, and ensure coverage, addressing signal blind spots around Điện Biên Airport to ensure operational readiness.
