Muong Nhe Nature Reserve is located in Muong Nhe District, Dien Bien Province, approximately 700km northwest of Hanoi. From Dien Bien Phu city, head north on National Highway 12 to reach Muong Cha town. Continuing on the newly opened road towards the border, you will arrive at Muong Nhe Nature Reserve.

Muong Nhe Nature Reserve covers approximately 310,262 hectares, including 10 border communes inhabited by ethnic communities such as Ha Nhi, Kho Mu, Mong, and nearly 118,000 hectares of natural forests with a 43% coverage. It includes pristine forests, the habitat of numerous rare and endangered plant and animal species requiring conservation. With such a rich forest ecosystem, Muong Nhe Nature Reserve is recognized as a biodiversity hotspot for large species in Vietnam.

Recently, the reserve has documented the addition of 248 new species (198 butterfly species, 34 amphibian species, 16 reptile species), and 742 plant species belonging to 502 genera and 158 families. The wildlife inventory includes 60 mammal species, 257 bird species, 77 reptile species, 40 amphibian species, and 198 butterfly species. From a bird's-eye view, the panoramic scenery of Muong Nhe mountainous forest resembles a stunning natural painting. Faintly in the distant horizon, mountain peaks rise and dip, creating a rhythmic dance under the sunlight. The entire mountainous forest scene is vividly green, vast, and majestic.

Muong Nhe Nature Reserve plays a crucial and significant role in safeguarding forests, water sources, and preserving biodiversity. However, in recent years, the management and protection efforts have faced various challenges. Alongside the risks and challenges in forest management and protection, biodiversity conservation in Muong Nhe Nature Reserve has also encountered numerous difficulties.
