Reading PDF files directly in browsers is convenient, allowing you to open them quickly without installing third-party software. However, for large-sized PDFs, reading them directly in the browser can be sluggish, affecting the user experience. This article guides you on how to disable this feature on popular browsers: Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Coc Coc, and Microsoft Edge.
DISABLE PDF READING FEATURE ON GOOGLE CHROME
Step 1: Open the browser, enter the following command in the URL address bar: chrome://settings/content

Step 2: Next, click on the line “PDF document”

Step 3: When you click on the line “Download PDF files instead of automatically...,” the radio button turns green, indicating success.

DISABLE PDF READING FEATURE ON FIREFOX
Step 1: Open the browser, enter the following command in the URL address bar: about:config

A cautionary notice urges you to handle this important config area with care; press “I’ll be careful, I promise” to proceed.
Step 2: Type the following command into the search bar above: pdfjs.disable

Step 3: In the search results, double-click on the value false to change it to true, indicating successful disablement

DISABLE PDF READING FEATURE ON COCCOC:
Step 1: Open your browser, enter the following command into the URL bar: coccoc://settings/content

Step 2: Next, simply tap on the line that says “PDF Documents”

Step 3: Click on the line that reads “Download PDF files instead of automatically opening in Coc Coc”, make sure the checkbox is ticked, and you've successfully deactivated the feature

DISABLE PDF FILE READING FEATURE ON MICROSOFT EDGE
Step 1: Choose any PDF file on your computer, right-click, and select Open with -> Choose another application.

Step 2: Next, pick any other PDF-reading application, check the box that says Always use this app to open .pdf files and then press OK.

That's it! You've indirectly disabled the PDF file reading feature on the Edge browser.
