Cortana is a special feature in Windows 10 that helps you perform tasks more quickly. However, using Cortana can be challenging for many users as it still doesn't support Vietnamese. You can disable Cortana to free up RAM and speed up your computer.
Disable Cortana on Windows 10 Anniversary Update
For Windows 10 Home Edition
On Windows 10 Home, you can disable Cortana by editing the Windows Registry. However, tweaking the Registry can potentially destabilize your system or render it inoperable. It is advisable to back up your Registry before making any changes, using free tools such as Ccleaner, for example. Ccleaner software allows you to utilize essential features entirely for free without any obligations.
Step 1: First, press the Windows + R key combination, then type regedit in the search bar and press Enter to open the Registry tool.
Step 2: Next, search for the path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Search.
If you can't find Windows Search, right-click on the Windows folder, choose New > Key, and name the folder Windows Search.
Step 3: Next, right-click on the newly created Windows Search and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.
Step 4: Name the new DWORD as AllowCortana, set the value to 0, and click OK.
Now, simply close the Registry Editor, restart your computer, and you have successfully completed the process of turning off Cortana. If you want to enable Cortana again, just reopen this path and set the value to 1 or delete the DWORD you just created.
For Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise Editions
On Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise, the easiest way to disable Cortana is by using the Local Group Policy Editor tool.
Step 1: First, press the Windows + R key combination and type gpedit.msc, then press Enter to open the Local Group Policy Editor.
Step 2: Next, navigate to the path: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Search.
Step 3: Next, double-click on Allow Cortana, choose Disable, and then click OK. Now you can close the Group Policy Editor and restart your computer for the changes to take effect. You have successfully turned off Cortana. To re-enable Cortana, follow the same steps and change Disable to Enable.
