Previous Windows operating systems, like Windows 7, only require entering the Password at the login screen (if Password is set). However, with Windows 8, it's different. You have to go through the Lock Screen before reaching the login screen, which seems a bit redundant. You can turn off the Lock Screen in Windows 8 with the steps below.
Guide to Disabling Lock Screen in Windows 8
Download the Win 8 setup file
Step 1: Access the Local Group Policy Editor
There are 2 ways to do this:
- On the Desktop, press the “Window + R” key combination, type gpedit.msc (1), select OK (2).
- On the Apps screen, select Run, type gpedit.msc (1), select OK (2).
Step 2: Within the Local Group Policy Editor screen
- Select Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\Personalization. Follow steps (1), (2), (3), (4), then double-click Do not display the lock screen (5).
- In this step, choose Enable (1), then select Apply (2), OK (3).
Step 3: Close all programs and restart your computer.
- After restarting, the computer will directly enter the Desktop screen.
In general, the interface of Windows 8 is beautiful and much more interesting compared to previous versions of Windows. While the Lock Screen may seem unnecessary to many, it's not the case for everyone. Many people still prefer booting to the Lock Screen, so depending on your preference, you can choose the most suitable way to start Windows 8.
