10. Designate an heir when the owner of a Facebook account passes away
Facebook's hidden features that professional users might not know about
The world's largest social network - Facebook has begun allowing users to designate an “heir” to a portion of their account after they pass away.
Their heir will have the ability to write, post statuses on the account they have been 'bequeathed,' respond to friend requests, update profile, change cover photos, etc. However, they will not have access to all messages unless granted permission by the deceased.
To designate a legacy contact, go to Settings => Security => Legacy Contact tab and choose one of your Facebook friends to be the heir of your Facebook account.
Additionally, you can also choose to permanently delete your Facebook account after death.
11. Enhancing Facebook Security
Hidden Facebook features not everyone knows about
It's a great idea to add some extra layers of security to your Facebook account. You'll no longer have to worry about someone unauthorized logging in and using your account. Check out the article: Facebook 2-Factor Authentication here
Here are 2 settings that can protect your Facebook account:
1. Activate Login Approvals. Essentially, Login Approvals are a form of 2-factor authentication. This feature adds an optional verification step to the login process. When you log into your Facebook account on a different browser, Facebook will send a one-time use code to your phone.
To activate Login Approval, go to Settings => Security => Login Approvals. You will receive a verification code to confirm the device you're logging in from.
2. Utilize the Trusted Contacts feature. Trusted Contacts is a function designed to help you recover a lost or stolen account, relying on trusted friends in your friend list. This feature will prompt you to select 3 to 5 of your most trusted friends from your Facebook friend list.
To activate the Trusted Contacts feature, go to Settings => Security => Trusted Contacts.
You can always update your list of trusted contacts from your friends list to regain access to your account.
12. Block Facebook tracking on mobile browsers
This is a feature you unfortunately won't find anywhere on Facebook, and that's the issue. While Facebook claims to allow users more control over targeted advertising, the reality is not publicly disclosed, and it starts using your apps and web browsing history to display ads from advertisers.
Unlike privacy settings on Facebook, you have no option to 'cut off' this tracking. However, you can use the option of the Digital Advertising Alliance's third-party app [link: http://optout.aboutads.info/#/ ] to do this.
Note to remember to disable AdBlocker Plus or any similar software you are using. Follow the simple instructions and make sure you check the box next to Facebook, and you can conduct your internet business without the 'participation' of third-party advertisers.
13. Manage News Feed
You can think of the News Feed as your 'home' on Facebook. And because it's your home, you try to keep it clean, tidy, and free from distractions. You don't want your News Feed to always be 'drowned' in a pile of advertising posts or your friends' shared statuses, ...
The quickest way to address these issues is to click the 3-dot icon next to the News Feed section in the top-left corner. Select Edit Preferences from the menu and click on Prioritize who to see first, then choose the users, pages you want to see more or less on your News Feed.
Additionally, you can click on Unfollow people to hide their posts to hide annoying ads. Access this feature by clicking the small arrow icon in the top-right corner of each post and select Unfollow [your friend's name]. You and the person will still be friends on Facebook, but what they post will no longer appear on your News Feed unless you follow them again.
14. View your friends' relationship status
If you see a post by someone on your Facebook friend's wall, you can view the details of the relationship status between those two people. Simply click on the small arrow icon in the top-right corner of the post and select More Options. There you will see the option See Friendship.
Alternatively, for quicker access and viewing, you can use this method. If you enter the URL of your Facebook page, such as www.facebook.com/[their].[name], then add ?and= [second user's name]. When using this URL trick, check the Facebook URL of each user - Facebook may append strange characters to their URL (e.g., in case there is another account with the same name).
