3. Synopsis of the tale Son Tinh - Thuy Tinh, model number 3:
In the 18th reign of the Hung Kings, there existed a princess named Mi Nuong, renowned for her beauty and talent. Thus, King Hung sought a suitable and skilled suitor for her. One day, two young men came forth to propose. One was Son Tinh, gifted in shaping hills, erecting mountains, and shifting seas. The other, known as Thuy Tinh, could command clouds, summon winds, induce rain, and conjure waves, even performing water rituals. King Hung, undecided, addressed the pair: 'Both of you are exceedingly talented, yet I have but one daughter, what am I to do? Therefore, tomorrow, whoever presents the betrothal rites first shall wed my daughter...' Early the next morning, Son Tinh arrived with a comprehensive dowry, including nine ivory elephants, nine roosters with nine spurs, and nine red horses, each paired, alongside a hundred packs of square glutinous rice cakes and a hundred trays of sticky rice. Witnessing this, King Hung was pleased, permitting Son Tinh to wed his daughter and lead her back to the mountains. Regarding Thuy Tinh, arriving later, he failed to marry Mi Nuong. Enraged, he promptly summoned winds, clouds, and storms, flooding the land to assail Son Tinh with the sole intent of seizing the bride. Consequently, the vast lands of Phong Chau were engulfed. To counter Thuy Tinh's wrath, Son Tinh moved mountains to fill the sea, employing magic to raise the mountain even higher. Thus, the two sides engaged in ceaseless combat day and night, the battlefield stretching endlessly. Despite relentless efforts, Thuy Tinh could not prevail, thus he withdrew.
As a result, Thuy Tinh harbored resentment, annually, in July or August, he would dispatch troops to assail Son Tinh, seeking retribution. This led to scenes of storms, floods, and tempestuous winds...
