Guess what? Stormbreaker is actually... a little jealous!
In the MCU, Thor started wielding Stormbreaker since Infinity War. Let's explore the unique features of Stormbreaker that have been showcased in Marvel films!
1. Stormbreaker isn't bound by the 'worthy' enchantment like Mjolnir, making it accessible to anyone
As one of Thor's power sources, Mjolnir is an enchanted artifact created by Odin in the first Thor movie, reserved only for those deemed 'worthy' to lift it. Unlike Mjolnir, Stormbreaker doesn't have enchantment restrictions. Hence, when Thanos acquired Stormbreaker, he used it to attack Thor.
2. Stormbreaker can withstand attacks from a fully stoned Infinity Gauntlet
As Thor mentioned in Infinity War, Nidavellir's weapon can shatter the frail bodies of users and drive their minds into madness. The issue is, Thanos is so powerful that he could wield this axe effortlessly.
In Thor: Love and Thunder, Gorr could also get his hands on this axe.
In the finale of Avengers: Infinity War, Thor used Stormbreaker after returning from Nidavellir to reverse the tide of the battle. Fueled by vengeance, Thor hurled the axe directly into Thanos's chest, piercing through the energy beam emitted by the fully stoned Infinity Gauntlet.
Interestingly, Stormbreaker can completely counter the power surge from the Infinity Gauntlet, showcasing how formidable Thor's new axe truly is.
3. Stormbreaker is a weapon capable of injuring Thanos
The Russo brothers once stated that Stormbreaker is the most extraordinary weapon ever crafted, capable of resisting the might of the gauntlet. In Wakanda, we witnessed Stormbreaker inflicting severe injuries on Thanos, and notably, it seems to be the only weapon capable of doing so.
4. Eitri labels Stormbreaker as the mightiest weapon in Asgard
In Infinity War, Eitri proclaimed Stormbreaker as the mightiest weapon in Asgard. This is intriguing, considering that the dwarves of Nidavellir had previously crafted various powerful weapons, including Mjolnir.
5. Can summon the Bifrost
Immediately upon completion, Stormbreaker almost resurrected Thor, similar to Mjolnir's abilities, and then summoned the Bifrost bridge to accompany him to Wakanda in support of the Avengers.
Gorr will utilize Stormbreaker's Bifrost summoning ability to achieve Eternity in Love and Thunder.
6. Captain America can summon Stormbreaker
In the final battle of Endgame, there's a moment where Captain America inadvertently summons Stormbreaker instead of Mjolnir. This might be because Mjolnir had already returned to Thor's hand. Upon closer observation, Mjolnir was summoned to Thor first, allowing Captain America to later summon Stormbreaker.
However, right after that, Thor and Captain America exchanged weapons. Thor handed Mjolnir to Cap, and Cap returned Stormbreaker to Thor. Seeing how Stormbreaker was somehow summoned into Cap's hands, it seems he was deemed worthy to wield Thor's new weapon.
7. Stormbreaker has emotions
Thor: Love and Thunder hinted that Stormbreaker seemingly has emotions. The axe appears to be envious of the attention Thor gives to Mjolnir.
