Apple introduces the Freeform app on iOS 16.2, iPadOS 16.2, and macOS Ventura 13.1. Designed for collaboration, Freeform enables note-taking, sketching, drawing, link-saving... Multiple individuals can collaborate on the same Freeform document. Updates are synchronized in real-time. According to Apple, Freeform resembles a creative space where individuals collectively brainstorm ideas.
2. Apple Music Sing
Apple Music Sing, a karaoke feature for Apple Music subscribers, provides song lyrics for users to sing along on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV. Features include singing with the original artist, solo singing, duets...
Apple introduces over 50 playlists comprising songs, duets, choruses with Sing. Starting from iPhone 11, third-generation iPad Pro 11-inch, fifth-generation iPad Pro 12.9-inch, fourth-generation iPad Air, ninth-generation iPad, and recent iPad mini models can utilize this feature.
Advanced Data Protection
Advanced data protection was introduced last week, expanding end-to-end encryption for more iCloud data categories. It can be used to encrypt iCloud backups, Messages backups, iCloud Drive content, Notes, Photos, Reminders, Voice Memos, Safari Bookmarks, Siri Shortcuts, Wallet Passes.
With this update, most iCloud data is now protected, except for Mail, Contacts, Calendar which require integration with legacy systems.
4. External Screen Support for Stage Manager
With iPadOS 16.2, Stage Manager on iPad with M1, M2 chips can be used with an external screen. This is a feature Apple removed in the initial release of iPadOS 16.
Stage Manager now supports up to 8 apps, instead of 4. The feature is only available for iPad M1 and M2. Additionally, there is the ability to drag and drop windows from the iPad to the secondary screen.
5. Disabling Wallpaper and Notifications on Always-On Display
iOS 16.2 introduces two switches to disable wallpaper and notifications when activating the always-on display. The screen interface becomes simpler, showing only the time and activated widgets.
6. AirDrop Limited to Contacts Only
In iOS 16.2, AirDrop defaults to sharing with contacts instead of everyone. There's an option to share with everyone nearby, but it reverts to Contacts Only after 10 minutes. Apple states the feature aims to limit AirDrop spam.
7. Collision Detection Optimization
Collision Detection Optimization will prevent iPhone 14 from triggering emergency calls when users are on roller coasters or engaging in other adventurous activities.
