A while ago, there were leaked images of an upcoming affordable Chromecast device from Google. Recently, developer Kuba Wojciechowski shared further information about the software, hardware, and the official device name by delving deep into the firmware believed to be pre-installed on this device.

Wojciechowski revealed that the upcoming budget dongle will be named 'Chromecast HD'. This is because it will only support streaming at 1080p resolution instead of 4K like the current Chromecast with Google TV (Chromecast 4K). Additionally, Chromecast HD will come pre-installed with Android 12 featuring the Google TV interface, a significant advantage over Chromecast 4K, which is currently stuck with Android 10 due to its limited 8GB internal storage – insufficient for OS upgrades and storing new apps and app updates.

Additionally, Chromecast HD will feature 1.5GB of RAM instead of 2GB like Chromecast 4K, with Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity. The firmware also includes schematic images of a remote similar to the one found with the current Chromecast 4K.
