Vietnam boasts many breathtaking islands worth exploring and immersing yourself in the journey, rather than just visiting, taking photos, sharing on social media, and leaving. And Phú Quý Island is one of those places.

Day 1: Saigon – Mũi Kê Gà – Phan Thiết
To reach Phú Quý Island, you need to first arrive in Phan Thiết city. From Saigon, there are various transportation options to Phan Thiết such as bus, train, or personal vehicle. However, our group chose to travel from Saigon to Phan Thiết by motorbike, taking the coastal route via Lagi, passing through Mũi Kê Gà.

Day 2: Phan Thiet – Phu Quy Island Adventure
Embarking on an island getaway to Phu Quy is now more convenient than ever. Previously, travelers had to endure a 6-hour journey aboard either the Binh Thuan 16 or Binh Thuan 18 vessels. However, with the introduction of the high-speed Hung Phat 26 and SAVANNA Phu Quy – Khai Thinh KG ferries, the trip from Phan Thiet to the island has been significantly shortened to just 3.5 hours for the high-speed ferry and 2.5 hours for the ultra-fast ferry. It's important to note that ferry schedules are subject to weather conditions, so it's advisable to contact the port in advance to check the ferry timetable before your departure.

For ferry ticket bookings during office hours, including Sundays and public holidays, please contact: Phu Quy Port Authority at (062) 3 506 374; Phan Thiet Port Authority at (062) 3 506 358.
Ferry ticket prices (for a 3.5-hour journey) are as follows:
– Standard seat or berth: 250,000 VND per person
– Air-conditioned berth: 350,000 VND per person
Slow ferry ticket prices (6-hour journey):
– Standard seat: 150,000 VND per person
– Reserved seat: 250,000 VND per person
Round-trip motorbike ferry fee: manual bike 500,000 VND/each, automatic bike: 540,000 VND/each.

Before heading to the ferry terminal, it's advisable to have a hearty breakfast in Phan Thiet. One recommended spot is My Hong rice dish eatery, renowned for its flavorful marinated meat and delicious dipping sauce. The restaurant is located at 198 Tran Hung Dao Street.
We opted for the slow ferry at a ticket price of 150,000 VND per person per trip, departing from Phan Thiet port at 10:00 AM and arriving at Phu Quy Island around 3:00 PM.

Currently, there are no resorts or hotels on the island, only guesthouses, hostels, and homestays. Some options to consider include: Truong Huy Guesthouse (0963337316), Phu Quy Homestay (0937194908), Long Vi Guesthouse (0918680344), Hoang Phu Guesthouse (0168643531), and more.
Upon arrival on the island, our group stayed at Hoang Phu Guesthouse, conveniently located near the ferry terminal. The room rate for a 2-bed air-conditioned room for 4 people is approximately 250,000 VND/day. The rental price for motorbikes on the island ranges from 100,000 to 120,000 VND/day, depending on the bike's quality. You can easily rent a bike at your accommodation as every guesthouse on the island provides this service. Another notable aspect here is the strict adherence to traffic laws by the locals, despite the absence of traffic police on the island. Therefore, always remember to wear a helmet while riding a motorbike anywhere on the island.

After acquiring our bikes, our group embarked on exploring Phu Quy Island. With an area of 17 km² and a population of approximately 28,000 people, Phu Quy Island boasts a rich religious life, with four main religions: Buddhism, Protestantism, Catholicism, and Caodaism. Strolling along the island's roads, you'll easily encounter magnificent religious structures with impressive architecture, rivaling those in major cities.
Our first destination was to find a place to eat. We eagerly tried out various eateries on the island, where despite their simple setups, the snack options were plentiful and incredibly delicious yet affordable.

On the first evening on the island, it's recommended to ride towards the Ngũ Phụng embankment and admire the sunset there.

Evenings on the island offer limited entertainment activities, so most tourist groups tend to gather for dining at seaside eateries. One notable recommendation is Ong Gia Restaurant located behind Hoang Phu Guesthouse, which is quite close to the port. Although this eatery doesn't have a specific address, it's so renowned that locals will eagerly direct you there upon inquiry.

Day 3: Exploring Phu Quy Island
This will be the main exploration day on Phu Quy Island, where you can visit and experience various attractions such as:
Trieu Duong Bay: A familiar spot for locals and tourists alike, boasting a wide, smooth white sandy beach, clear blue waters, and a shaded forest perfect for outdoor adventures.

Nho Beach – Hang Cliff: One of Phu Quy's beautiful beaches, characterized by a crescent-shaped bay bordered by protruding rocky cliffs. Though small, the beach is spacious and serene, with clear blue waters, minimal anchored boats, and fresh air, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers.

Van An Thanh: Located on a white sandy beach near Trieu Duong village, Tam Thanh commune, Phu Quy district. Van An Thanh currently preserves nearly 100 skeletons (including whales, sea turtles), making it a marine biology museum with a rich collection of whale specimens.

Visit the small islets around the island: A trip to Phu Quy Island wouldn't be complete without renting a small boat to explore the small islets around the island. Some notable islets include: Hon Tranh, Hon Den, Hon Trung, etc. Cruising on a boat around these islets allows you to witness the crystal-clear waters, with visibility down to the seabed. You can easily rent a small boat at the port for approximately 300,000 – 400,000 VND depending on the number of passengers. For boat rental inquiries, you can contact Mrs. Hai Dong Thap at 0972.031.325.

Phu Quy Lighthouse – Forbidden Mountain: The Phu Quy Lighthouse sits atop the Forbidden Mountain, standing at 108m above sea level, approximately 3km west of the port in Ngũ Phụng commune. At the summit of the mountain lies the largest lighthouse in Vietnam.

Thay Nai Tomb: Built in the 17th century, this is considered the spiritual sanctuary of coastal residents.

Linh Son Pagoda – High Sand Mountain: A beautiful scenic complex of Phu Quy. High Sand Mountain is regarded by islanders as a sacred peak, situated in the northern part of the island, where the majestic statue of Quan Am Buddha is placed atop the mountain. From the summit of High Sand Mountain, tourists can overlook a vast expanse of space surrounding the island.

Day 4: Phu Quy Island – Saigon
The return ferry from Phu Quy Island to Phan Thiet usually departs at 6:00 AM, so you should head to the port early to catch the ferry. The ferry arrives in Phan Thiet around noon. You will rest here and then proceed to Saigon, concluding your exploration of Phu Quy Island with many exciting experiences.
