Design and Display

In terms of design, Tecno maintains a familiar language seen in other foldable smartphones. However, the company takes a unique approach to the camera and secondary display. Unlike other flip phones, the Phantom V Flip will feature a round display with a large surrounding ring, seamlessly integrating the external screen and camera module.

Leaks have unveiled that the external display of the Phantom V Flip measures 1.32 inches and will utilize an AMOLED panel with a resolution of 466 x 466 pixels. Internally, the phone will feature a flexible 6.9-inch AMOLED display supporting a resolution of 1,080 x 2,460 pixels, a 20.5:9 aspect ratio, and a refreshing 144Hz rate. On the right side of the phone, you'll find volume and power buttons, with a fingerprint sensor expected to be integrated into the power button for convenient unlocking. Leaked images suggest the phone will sport a metallic frame.

Specifications and Performance

In a bid for affordability, Tecno is rumored to equip the Phantom V Flip with a mid-range processor. Specifically, this foldable smartphone is said to feature the Dimensity 8050 processor.

For those unfamiliar, the Dimensity 8050 is essentially a rebranded version of the Dimensity 1300 SoC, built on TSMC's 6nm process. This octa-core processor comprises four powerful Cortex-A78 cores and four power-efficient Cortex-A55 cores. The Cortex-A78 cores include a Super Core running at speeds up to 3GHz and three performance cores clocked at 2.6GHz. The chipset can handle up to 16GB LPDDR4x RAM and UFS 3.1 internal storage.

Regarding graphics, Dimensity 8050 relies on Arm Mali-G77 with 9 cores. This processor also supports 4K video recording and a maximum screen resolution of 2,520 x 1,080 pixels.

We can also anticipate that the Phantom V Flip will feature 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. To keep the cost lower, Tecno is likely to use LPDDR4x RAM paired with UFS 3.1 storage. Additionally, the phone is rumored to debut with the HIOS user interface based on Android 13. Internally, the device will house a 4,000mAh battery with 66W fast charging support via USB-C.

Phantom V Flip will offer various connectivity options, including Wi-Fi 802.11ax, Bluetooth 5.3, and 5G support for 14 different 5G bands.

Camera System

According to leaked sources, Phantom V Flip will feature a dual-camera setup on the rear, including a 64-megapixel main sensor with autofocus, accompanied by a 13-megapixel camera for ultra-wide shots and a ring-shaped LED flash. On the front, this smartphone will sport a 32-megapixel selfie camera housed in the main screen's punch-hole. It remains unclear whether this device will have features like OIS and the ability to use the main camera as a selfie camera when folded.

Pricing and Launch Date

Tecno recently announced the unveiling of the Phantom V Flip at 15:00 SGT on September 22nd (approximately 14:00 Vietnam time). While the brand has kept the price under wraps, renowned leaker Paras Guglani claims the smartphone will be priced between 50,000 INR to 55,000 INR (equivalent to 14.6 million to 16 million VND). It is expected to come in three color options: Minimal Black, Film White, and Periwinkle Purple.
