Xa Phin village is situated at an altitude of approximately 1000 meters above sea level, serving as the dwelling place of the Dao ethnic community. The indigenous residents reside in stilt houses with palm leaf roofs, adorned with lush green moss. Local inhabitants note that the moss-covered roofs in this area typically endure for 20-30 years.

Initially, the stilt houses of the Dao people do not feature green moss on their palm leaf roofs. After around 5 years, under favorable weather conditions such as cool climate, fog, high humidity, and dense mist, conducive environments for the dense growth of green moss are established. Consequently, the palm leaf roofs gradually absorb moisture, allowing the green moss to proliferate, resulting in the transformation of the stilt houses in Xa Phin into a visually stunning shade of green.

This is a traditional stilt house model, each house using various shades of brown, black, and multicolored stones to create a sturdy and solid home.

The stones used by the Thai people to build stilt houses are extracted from the depths of the Da River, easily cut to fit the roofing requirements. The roof tiles are cut into square pieces ranging from 20 to 30 cm. The top part is cut in a triangular shape to fit together when assembled, ensuring a straight roof without tilting.

The characteristic feature of stone-roofed stilt houses in Muong Lay town is their waterproof, heat-resistant, and cold-resistant nature. To support the heavy stone roof, the Thai people often use large wood for the house frame. All pillars, rafters, etc., are connected very securely.
