1. Essential Tools Preparation

- The most vital tool you need is a set of Pickaxes. To mine diamonds, you must have an Iron Pickaxe (or better). Trying to extract diamonds with a stone or wooden pickaxe will break the block, but the diamond won't drop. Prepare multiple stone pickaxes for other blocks and add an iron pickaxe for diamonds, gold, and lapis lazuli.
- Carry plenty of Torches. Torches illuminate your path in caves, reducing monster spawns. Typically, you'll need up to 64 torches for a trip, but having extras is never a bad idea.
- You'll need Food for healing and to stave off hunger. Anything edible works, but Cooked Beef and Cooked Chicken are the best choices. Cook raw meats in a Furnace before setting out.
- Weapons to defend yourself on the journey. Caves are filled with creatures, so don't forget to bring at least a Sword and a Shield.
One final thing to note is not to deplete all your resources before finding diamonds. Remember that you'll need to find your way back to the surface.
2. Where to Mine Diamonds
In previous Minecraft versions, diamonds were quite abundant below height 16 (y < 16). However, starting from 1.18, with the upgraded cave system, the deeper you go, the more prevalent diamonds become.
So, to uncover diamonds, you must descend below height 16 in the world.
- Tip: If you're unsure of your current height, press F3 (PC) or FN + F3 (on Laptop).
A panel of statistics will appear, pay attention to the XYZ:... line. The middle number indicates the height you're standing at. In the image below, -36.00000 means I'm at an elevation of – 36. This is an ideal height for finding diamonds.

Avoid being too hasty as diamonds are quite rare and may take a considerable amount of time to find. Be patient and persist in your search. Additionally, you can mine other valuable ores like gold, redstone, lapis lazuli, and emerald.
