Embark on a Journey Through Time at Cham Sculpture Museum in Da Nang – Unraveling the Splendor of Champa Heritage
The Cham Sculpture Museum in Da Nang was established in 1915, but two decades prior, numerous Cham sculptures unearthed in the Da Nang and Quang Nam regions were consolidated in an area known as 'Tourane Park.'

In the late 19th century, French archaeologists often conducted excavations of Cham artifacts. Some sculptures were transported to France, while others found their way to museums in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

The inaugural building of the museum was designed by two French architects, Delaval and Auclair, incorporating the distinctive lines of Cham architecture. Despite several renovations and expansions, the original architectural style of the museum remains intact to this day.

The first expansion of the museum took place in the mid-1830s with the aim of providing additional space to display newly collected artifacts. The building's interior was arranged into exhibition areas, including the Indochina Room, Tra Kieu Room, Cham Tower Room, My Son Room, and corridors dedicated to Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Kon Tum, and Binh Dinh provinces.

The Cham Sculpture Museum in Da Nang houses approximately 2,000 sculptures, primarily crafted from sandstone, terracotta, and bronze, with sandstone being predominant. These artifacts range in date from the 7th to the 15th century and represent various artistic styles.

Inside the museum building, nearly 500 artifacts are displayed across exhibition rooms such as My Son, Tra Kieu, Cham Tower, Indochina, and corridors dedicated to Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Kon Tum, and Binh Dinh provinces. Over 1,200 additional artifacts are stored in the museum's warehouse. The museum also houses three national treasures of Cham culture: the Tara Bodhisattva Statue, Tra Kieu Altar, and My Son E1 Altar.

In 2011, The Cham Sculpture Museum in Da Nang was recognized as a first-class museum in Vietnam, affirming its crucial role in preserving and promoting the cultural values of Champa. Contact Mytour now for great deals on tours to Da Nang and explore the Cham Sculpture Museum!
