Best Time to Visit and Getting There
– Cameron Highlands boasts a temperate climate year-round, but the ideal time to visit is from December to February when temperatures can drop to 10°C.
– Cameron Highlands is about 300 km from Kuala Lumpur and accessible by bus, mini van, taxi, and more.
Bus
From Kuala Lumpur, buses depart from Pudu Sentral bus station to Tanah Rata. The bus fare ranges from 35-37RM. Daily departures start as early as 8 AM. Travel time usually takes between 3-5 hours depending on the bus.
Mini Vans (provided by tour companies)
Tour companies offer small vans to serve tourists traveling to Cameron Highlands.
Vans departing from Kuala Lumpur pick up passengers at Swiss Inn, Jl. Sultan, Chinatown. Departure is at 12 PM daily, with a travel time of 4.5 hours.
Vans departing from Penang pick up passengers in Georgetown. Departure is at 8 AM daily.
Flight
There are no direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Cameron. You'll have to fly from Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh, and then take a bus to Cameron (which takes 1 hour). However, this method takes quite a bit of time and the prices aren't cheap either.
Hotels in Cameron Highlands
Cameron Highlands offers a wide range of hotels and apartments concentrated in the two main centers of Tanah Rata and Brinchang. Brinchang has many apartments, while Tanah Rata has plenty of guesthouses. If you're traveling in a group, opting for an apartment is advisable as they are reasonably priced, clean, and well-equipped.
