The Ice Hotel, located in the village of Jukkasjarvi (Sweden), has just opened its doors, unveiling intricately carved sculptures and uniquely designed icy accommodations.
Discover the Unique Ice Hotel

This ice hotel uses up to 5,000 tons of ice and snow from the nearby Torne River as building materials for all its rooms. The hotel opened its doors to guests in early December 2015 and will close when this icy structure melts away in March of the following year.
Constructed with 700 million snowflakes, The Ice Hotel features 55 bedrooms with 19 distinct themes and an ice bar serving evening drinks. There's even a grand ice church within the hotel.
During Christmas, this ice church opens its doors to visitors and worshippers alike. And an impressive 3-meter-tall artistic sculpture—a snow elephant—stands in the hotel lobby, leaving a strong impression on guests.
Inspired by 1970s igloo-style accommodations, the snow and ice hotel rooms feature designs reminiscent of Russia's royal opera house or a snowy cave.
Recreating magical new ice hotels each year isn't easy, involving approximately 5,000 tons of natural stone extracted from the Torne River and stunning crystal chandeliers crafted from 1,000 hand-cut transparent snowflakes.
Construction of the snow and ice hotel begins immediately when temperatures drop below 0 degrees Celsius, taking two months to complete.
If these exceptional stone and ice hotel rooms aren't enough to amaze guests, hotel staff can arrange wake-up calls so guests can admire the spectacular Northern Lights outside.
Wake-up calls are organized through a new app—Aurora Skycam. Alarm sounds ring out as the screen lights up, allowing users to access real-time data.
The hotel also offers courses on Nordic skiing and survival skills in the Arctic, including how to build a shelter and create fire for adventurous travelers.
Here lies the quaint Homestead restaurant, offering famous Swedish delicacies like venison served with chocolate sauce. Approximately 26,550 beverage portions along with 11,000 cups of complimentary hot fruit juice are served at the snow bar throughout the restaurant's operation.
Fortunately, thanks to favorable weather conditions, the ice blocks of the snow hotel are thicker than usual (about 10cm), ensuring the stability of this special hotel during this year's snow season.
