Phu Yen, the setting of the film “I see yellow flowers on green grass,” is not just adorned with pristine beaches but also offers a unique dish made from golden ants, challenging even the most daring travelers!

Discover the Uniqueness of the Golden Ant Specialty in Phu Yen
Sông Hinh, a mountainous region situated southwest of Phu Yen province, is the homeland of the Ede ethnic group. Renowned for the special dish made from golden ants, these ants are captured from bushes, streams, or dense bamboo groves.

When capturing ants, minimizing disruption to their nests reduces the risk of ant bites. The ant-catching process is challenging, requiring courage to prepare this extraordinary dish.

After capturing the ants, they are quickly roasted over a fire, burning leaves underneath. The ants are then mixed with coarse salt and crushed chili, resulting in the finished product - golden ant salt. Mentioning golden ant salt without acknowledging the dish 'one sunlight, two dews' is incomplete; this is a distinctive pair in the Ede cuisine of Sông Hinh.

Amidst the rolling hills and sparse population, Song Hinh offers vast grasslands for the Ede people to graze cattle. Consequently, the 'one sunlight, two dews' beef has become a local specialty. The unique name doesn't originate from drying the beef under 1 sun and 2 dews but reflects the arduous process of making this challenging dish, a tribute to the hardworking laborers.

Before the beef could be fully consumed, the Ede people used to air-dry it near the fireplace or sun-dry it gradually. As it evolved into a specialty, the beef is marinated with lemongrass and chili. While some places use ovens for quick drying, on beautiful sunny days, traditional sun-drying still takes precedence. When consumed, guests need only to grill it over the fire for 3-5 minutes to relish the sweet beef, perfectly complemented by tangy golden ant salt.
