1. Air Conditioners Under $5 Million: Surprising Bargains
Many still avoid buying cheap air conditioners, thinking 'cheap means low quality.' However, there are various air conditioners priced under $5 million that will leave users pleasantly surprised with what lies behind them.
In recent years, air conditioners have become a 'lifesaver' as we enter the summer season. With the scorching heat nowadays, air conditioners seem to become an indispensable companion for many households. The market is witnessing a surge in various air conditioner models equipped with different features, categorized into high-end and budget segments. For families with financial means, it's not difficult to purchase a premium air conditioner with prices ranging from over 10 million dong to several tens of million dong. However, for families with tight budgets, buying an air conditioner with a price tag above a few million dong exceeds their affordability. On the other hand, opting for air conditioners priced at a few million dong raises concerns about quality.
Lately, on social media forums, many individuals often ponder whether to buy budget-friendly air conditioners priced under 5 million dong. With a budget under 5 million dong, what types of air conditioners can one choose?

In the high-end segment, you'll typically find inverter air conditioners and dual-function models from brands like Daikin, Panasonic, Samsung, etc. Consequently, their prices often hover above 10 million dong, depending on the machine's capacity. In the budget segment, some brands offer multiple air conditioner models priced just under 5 million dong per unit. For example, the Midea MS11D1/A-09CR 1HP or Midea MSMA09-CR 1-way 1HP+, with prices starting from 4.66 to 4.9 million dong per unit; TCL's 1-way 1HP RVSC09KDS priced at around 4.75 million dong; Nagakawa NS - (C) A 09TK at 4.58 million dong per unit; LG S09ENA at 5.45 million dong per unit, or Sharp AHA9PEW 9000 BTU at 5.4 million dong per unit. Budget air conditioners typically have a cooling capacity of 9,000 BTU, suitable for rooms under 15 square meters. Additionally, these are single-function units (cooling only) and not inverter models (featuring energy-saving technology).
Mr. Nguyen Van Phi, a repair and installation technician with 15 years of experience in Ha Dong (Hanoi), shares that while premium air conditioners at high prices are undoubtedly excellent, budget air conditioners also have their own advantages. For instance, choosing budget-friendly air conditioners allows users to reduce the initial investment cost. A single-function air conditioner often costs only half the price of a dual-function unit, with no compromise on cooling performance. Moreover, in regions like the South, where the climate is hot all year round, using a single-function air conditioner is reasonable. Using a single-function air conditioner can be more cost-effective. As for the issue of budget air conditioners lacking inverter technology, Mr. Phi explains that if the daily usage is limited, the presence of inverter technology may not be crucial. In comparison, inverter air conditioners are generally more expensive, with prices higher by 2 to 4 million dong, depending on the type. In simple terms, an inverter air conditioner is a modern digital cooling device that regulates room temperature through an intelligent electronic circuit, replacing the traditional sensor relay technology used in conventional air conditioners.
To maximize the advantages of an inverter air conditioner, the inverter technology demands that the air conditioner runs at full capacity until it reaches the preset temperature. This implies that the unit's maximum capacity must adequately match or exceed the conditions and volume of the room. In cases where the unit's capacity is smaller than the room's volume, the energy-saving feature of the inverter will not be effective, and it will function similarly to regular air conditioners.
It's noteworthy that inverter air conditioners typically save electricity efficiently with continuous usage periods of 6-8 consecutive hours. Therefore, inverter air conditioners perform optimally for energy-saving purposes when installed in offices, restaurants, hotels, where rooms are continuously occupied for extended hours. For rooms with short occupancy periods, less than 6 hours, there is not enough time for the inverter feature to be effective. Hence, if usage time is limited, choosing a single-function air conditioner (without inverter technology) is a practical option for economically constrained households.
Additionally, Mr. Phi also revealed that opting for a budget-friendly single-function air conditioner has the advantage of easier and more cost-effective repairs and component replacements if malfunctions occur during usage. However, Mr. Phi advises that when selecting a budget air conditioner, users should also consider purchasing a reputable brand to ensure quality, backed by a professional warranty system for potential repair needs during the air conditioner's usage.
