Discovering Moderna's revolutionary mRNA vaccine, delivering an astonishing 94.5% effectiveness against Covid-19.

In just one week following Pfizer's startling announcement of their vaccine's 90% efficacy against Covid-19, Moderna steps up with a similar declaration. The pharmaceutical giant asserts the superiority of their vaccine, both in terms of storage (-20°C compared to Pfizer's -70°C) and availability (94.5% versus 90%, not to mention Sputnik V, which hasn't completed clinical trials yet).

According to Moderna's preliminary report from a total of 30,000 volunteers participating in clinical trials, 95 individuals given a placebo were infected with the virus. Among them, only 5 progressed to Covid-19 after receiving the company's mRNA-1273 vaccine. In short, the vaccine is poised to reduce the risk of Covid-19 infection by up to 94.5%, a figure beyond imagination amidst the rapidly spreading pandemic.

Even the director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Anthony Fauci, was quite surprised by the remarkable efficacy of Moderna's and Pfizer's new generation vaccines against Covid-19. Previously, he often mentioned that any Covid-19 vaccine achieving around 70 to 75% efficacy would be cause for celebration. What's more, Moderna's vaccine only requires storage at -20°C, making it feasible for regular refrigeration. In contrast, Pfizer's vaccine necessitates storage at -70°C, a temperature extremely challenging to maintain, especially in countries with average healthcare infrastructures, let alone poorer ones.

The reason why these two vaccines are referred to as next-generation vaccines is because they impact the virus differently, more swiftly and effectively. Traditional vaccines typically utilize virus proteins, purified and cultured, injected into the body to train the immune system to recognize the virus's form, ensuring an accurate response upon actual viral exposure. mRNA vaccines, however, deliver synthesized virus mRNA into the body, prompting the host to produce proteins itself. This approach accelerates the production of pure virus proteins, a process that traditionally takes months or even years to standardize for mass production. Now, the vaccinated individual becomes their own vaccine factory.

That said, these vaccine types have yet to complete their clinical trials, and these figures are merely preliminary. It's entirely possible that over time, these new vaccine types may not achieve the same high efficacy rates as currently reported. Nevertheless, this is incredibly promising news for humanity, as successful research into mRNA vaccines could have applications beyond Covid-19, potentially combating diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular diseases in the future.

Moderna's main obstacle lies in its pricing, where without subsidies, the two doses may cost around $50-60. Currently, only the United States has succeeded in negotiating a purchase price of $15 per dose.
