If you're a coffee enthusiast who appreciates the rich aroma and enticing sweet and sour notes of Arabica coffee, you've likely been captivated by the distinct flavors each region offers. In this article, Dacco Coffee takes you on a journey to explore three famous Arabica coffee-growing regions in Vietnam, a coffee variety cherished by many customers.
Coffee plants have been a part of Vietnam since the 19th century, continuing their developmental journey to make Vietnam the world's largest exporter of Grade A coffee, averaging around 1.7 million tons annually. With 600,000 hectares dedicated to coffee cultivation in Vietnam, only about 56,000 hectares are planted with Arabica. This variety is predominantly grown in Thua Thien Hue, Lam Dong, Quang Tri, Son La, and more, earning it higher esteem than other coffee types.

When talking about coffee-growing regions in our country, one immediately thinks of the Central Highlands, also known as the Mid-Central Plateau. This fortunate land is endowed with fertile red basaltic soil, allowing for the cultivation of various plants.
This coffee variety is cultivated in districts such as Don Duong, Lam Ha, Duc Trong, Di Linh, and some suburban areas of Da Lat city. Coffee connoisseurs consider it to be the highest-value coffee in Vietnam, with a taste that rivals the finest coffees globally, including Arabica Bourbon (Moka).
Da Lat is regarded as the 'paradise' for Arabica coffee due to its 'golden indicators' such as an altitude of 1,500 meters above sea level, a cool temperate climate year-round, with a maximum temperature not exceeding 33 degrees and a minimum temperature of 5 degrees. Therefore, the coffee beans harvested here contribute significantly to the economy due to their high value.

In the Northern region, there's a hidden gem for coffee enthusiasts - Dien Bien and Son La.
Surprisingly, the Northern part of Vietnam boasts quality coffee farms, breaking the stereotype of coffee plantations linked to the Central Highlands. The cold climate from the Northeast monsoon and abundant rainfall in the Northern mountainous provinces create ideal conditions for growing Arabica coffee. Sơn La and Điện Biên, with their elevated terrain and red soil, successfully nurture this coffee variety. Recognized by international customers for its similarities to Brazil's Sao Paulo region, Arabica in these provinces receives praise for its quality and high value. Currently, Sơn La and Điện Biên are strategically planned for the development of new Arabica varieties, aiming for excellence in quality and value. The future vision is to establish these regions as the focal point for Arabica cultivation in Vietnam.

Quang Tri and Nghe An, regions blessed with aromatic Arabica coffee.
When it comes to abundant Arabica coffee cultivation, these two places cannot be overlooked. Central Vietnam boasts areas like Khe Sanh (Quang Tri) and Phu Quy (Nghe An), ideal for Arabica coffee. Particularly, the Catimor variety (crossbreed between Caturra and Hybrid de Timor within the Arabica family) stands out. While lacking the intense sweetness of Bourbon, Catimor impresses with its deep aroma and distinct bitter, salty taste.
In recent times, apart from traditional Arabica varieties, the Tay Nguyen Institute of Economics and Agriculture has successfully crossbred many high-yielding and high-quality Arabica coffee strains. Two hybrid strains, TN1 and TN2, known for their high productivity and excellent quality, have received approval for regional cultivation. These new hybrid Arabica coffee varieties exhibit robust growth, prolific branching, and a yield of approximately 4-5 tons of coffee beans per hectare, featuring large-sized beans weighing 15-17 grams each and high resistance to rust disease.
It's no coincidence that keywords like Arabica coffee, Robusta coffee, and Sơn La coffee are highly searched. Among them, Vietnamese Arabica coffee is favored by the world's most renowned coffee brands. There's nothing quite like savoring a cup of richly flavored Arabica coffee.
Hope these insights assist you in selecting the finest, highest-quality source of coffee for your daily enjoyment. Coffee – an indispensable companion in life!
