Although the iPhone freezing issue when loading and displaying text, and the inability to open specific links, is not a new flaw, it becomes more severe when malicious content directly affects various devices. Recently, security researchers discovered a website attack based on CSS, the cause of iPhone freezing, resulting in browsers like Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer, and Safari freezing when the website hosts specific CSS code formats.
Discovery of a New CSS-Based Vulnerability Resulting in iPhone Freezing
Security researcher Sabri Haddouche has just shared a proof-of-concept website demonstrating vulnerabilities affecting numerous software across various devices. The mentioned website contains only 15 lines of code.
Haddouche's research addresses issues impacting browsers using Apple's WebKit rendering engine, including difficulties loading elements in the background font filter property in CSS. It exploits device resources to load the website, causing devices to restart due to kernel panic errors.

Information from Neowin indicates that the issue not only affects browsers using WebKit but also disrupts, temporarily freezing browsers like Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer 11. Edge browser users will see an error message displayed on the screen for a few seconds, as shown below:
It's noteworthy that the faulty CSS code has no impact on Chrome browsers; pages load and content displays instantly without any issues. Importantly, some devices experiencing freezing or crashing do not result in the loss of sensitive data. Users can hope that Microsoft and Apple will soon release browser updates to address this issue.
