Prompt: Discussing the Ideals of Youth Today
Essay:
Navigating through the myriad paths of life, there are moments when one feels uncertain, unsure of their purpose, and which path to take. To achieve dreams and strive for success, each individual needs to embrace their own life ideals, especially the future generations, the nation's hope.
So what exactly are ideals? Ideals represent the pinnacle of life's goals, reaching absolute perfection, aspiring towards future destinations rich in human values and excellence. Living by ideals is an immensely positive mindset, playing a significant role in each person's life. Embracing ideals leads to self-awareness and purposefulness in every endeavor, facilitating the delineation of future plans. When ideals become life's ultimate goal, individuals are devoted to them, cherishing and nurturing them, continuously improving themselves to realize those ideals. Living by ideals provides the motivation to overcome life's challenges and failures, serving as a great spiritual tonic that propels individuals to exert themselves fully in every pursuit. Therefore, living by ideals leads to greater success, affirming one's self-worth. Individuals who embody ideals contribute to building a better society. Those around them hold them in high regard and admiration. Living by ideals also entails living for others, for the community and society, fostering loving and compassionate hearts that bring people closer together.
In literature, we encounter the noble ideals of young individuals, working in the cold and desolate Sa Pa but still radiating admirable qualities, ardently striving for the ideal of serving the people's lives, serving the resistance. Hence, despite the adversities and challenges, their unwavering dedication yields numerous achievements in their work, as portrayed in the short story 'Silent Sa Pa' by Nguyen Thanh Long. Similarly, young girls volunteering to defuse bombs on the Truong Son trail sacrifice themselves for the ideal of national liberation, reclaiming independence and freedom for the Fatherland, as depicted in 'The Distant Stars' by Le Minh Khue.
Stepping into life, that spirit is further beautifully manifested. During wartime, generations of our forefathers fell for the ideal of liberating the country. Even during times of peace, subsequent generations continue these illustrious legacies. They are volunteer youth teams with ideals of altruism, unhesitatingly venturing into remote mountains, stormy regions, and flood-stricken areas to support and aid the people. They are students who tirelessly study day and night, striving to become successful entrepreneurs, life-saving doctors, or other professions dedicated to helping others. They are young individuals diligently working abroad, balancing additional jobs to pay tuition fees while attending school, aspiring to absorb the essence of international peers to contribute to the country's future development. All contribute to embellishing a generation of Vietnamese youth brimming with courage and vitality, living wholeheartedly for the ideals of socialism and for lofty personal goals they set for themselves.
However, here, there still exists a portion of young people who are losing themselves, unable to find the purpose of life, even feeling lost, not knowing which direction to choose for their lives. Many young people live aimlessly, each day becoming dull, tasteless, even living just to exist in a meaningless way, unable to find themselves in life then falling from one mistake to another. Many even neglect life, not caring about the world or anything happening around them, day by day only indulging in virtual life and gaming, some even falling into social vices like gambling, drugs.
Our generation of young people needs to establish a righteous and responsible ideal of living for themselves. They must constantly strive, learn, and enhance their knowledge, improve their moral qualities every day. They must live in harmony with the community, participate in social activities to develop themselves, and promote their talents. Each young person must follow the example of previous generations, living to the fullest for ideals, contributing to making life more beautiful, connecting love with each other, bonding together, helping to build the ideals of the country, of the nation. The young generation must take the lead in every aspect, being a solid foundation of the country, each young person being an important factor, living and striving for the most perfect ideals, overcoming obstacles to reach the shores of success, happiness.
The poet Xuân Diệu once wrote:
'Spring coming means spring is passing
Spring still young means spring will age'
If parents give us our physical form, then life gives us existence, so live your youth to its fullest, most beautiful, and complete. Contribute a small part of yourself to life, be a living entity full of meaning and worth cherishing. What's most necessary right now, take out a piece of paper, think carefully about your own ideals, set goals, make plans, and execute them.
