Immerse yourself in the oceanic realm with various marine species at one of Vietnam's oldest research institutions, the Nha Trang Oceanography Institute.
Explore the oceanic world at the Nha Trang Oceanography Institute
Nha Trang is renowned for its azure beaches, white sandy shores, beautiful islands, and rich cultural history. When you visit Nha Trang, you not only have the opportunity to admire the scenery and learn about the culture and lifestyle of the locals but also to experience the vibrant marine life at the Nha Trang Oceanography Institute, which is extremely fascinating.

The Nha Trang Oceanography Institute is one of the largest marine artifact repositories and research centers in Southeast Asia and was established very early in Vietnam. It was once voted as one of the top 10 historical and cultural tourist destinations, earning the title of “Satisfactory Tourist Destination 2005”.

The Nha Trang Oceanography Institute was founded on September 14, 1922, during the French colonial period, and in 1952, Vietnam took over its management. Located at 1 Cau Da Street, Nha Trang City, it houses data on seismology, tidal cycles, and ocean currents in the East Sea region.

Here, you'll have the special opportunity to witness firsthand the Marine Biology Museum, famous since the 1930s with over 24,000 specimens of more than 4,000 marine and freshwater species collected and preserved for many years, alongside live specimens kept in glass tanks.

The Nha Trang Oceanography Institute also houses an extremely valuable natural historical relic, which is the skeleton of a nearly 18-meter-long, 3-meter-tall giant whale buried in the soil of the Red River Delta for at least 200 years.

The Nha Trang Oceanography Institute is truly a valuable marine cultural heritage center that needs to be preserved and developed. Here, visitors are introduced to the natural features of the East Sea region, valuable minerals, resources, coastal environmental landscapes, rich ecosystems such as mangroves, coral reefs, and seaweed beds, to raise awareness and remind everyone to enhance environmental protection consciousness for the long-term benefits of future generations.

The institute is open from 6 am to 6 pm every day of the week, except for holidays and Lunar New Year. The entrance fee is relatively cheap: 40,000 VND/adult, 10,000 VND/student, and 20,000 VND/university student.
