DJI's aerial cameras have become exceedingly popular among content creators and photographers for their high image quality, automation capabilities, and superior safety features. Naturally, Google Pixel 6 users are no exception. They too utilize DJI's aerial cameras, but Pixel 6 users have been consistently experiencing compatibility issues between the Pixel 6 and DJI's apps.

Many Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro users have noticed issues with their phones and DJI Fly and DJI Mimo apps. Some encounter problems with the liveview screen not displaying, while others face complete functionality failure. Despite receiving signals and connections, the apps fail to show liveview, though other features operate normally. The histogram function remains active, indicating that camera image data is being received, yet the liveview section remains unresponsive.

For devices like the Action 2 and Pocket 2 using the DJI Mimo app, this issue is merely an inconvenience with the liveview feature. However, the devices still function, and users can proceed with normal usage. Conversely, for aerial cameras using the DJI Fly app, this renders them practically useless, as flying without liveview visibility becomes impossible.

The beta version of the DJI Fly app for Android 12 was released earlier and ran smoothly on many devices with various chipsets. This suggests that the issue lies with Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, specifically the Tensor SoC customized by Google. However, a few reports also cite similar issues with the Samsung S21, while others claim normal operation (at least on older app versions).

Instances of similar issues are increasingly prevalent on DJI and Twitter forums, to the extent that DJI moderators have acknowledged the problem. DJI confirms they've identified the issue and are working to resolve it, though they provide no timeline for resolution. In the meantime, they suggest borrowing a compatible device for use during the wait.

'We've confirmed with our design team regarding this issue. The compatibility issue on Pixel 6 and 6 Pro phones is escalating. We'll pay attention and try to resolve it as soon as possible. There have been recent misunderstandings as DJI brought some apps to their website without providing them on the Google Play Store. Most apps are still found on the Play Store but haven't been updated for a long time. The cause is still unclear, but some theories suggest it's due to the apps not being compatible with Google's App bundle requirement enforced earlier this year or due to political factors.
