Battery technology has not seen significant advancements in recent years, arguably stagnating due to the lack of breakthroughs. Instead, companies have shifted their focus to battery charging technology, aiming to maximize the amount of charge users can get in the shortest time possible.

Battery charging technology has seen remarkable development over the past 3 years, progressing from 30-40W in 2018 to 120W earlier this year. This means that you can charge your phone in less than 30 minutes.

Recently, there's buzz on Digital Chat Station's Weibo about the upcoming Mi Mix generation set to debut next year with fast charging technology. The accompanying charger is rumored to have a power output of around 200W. Currently, Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra's 120W charger already delivers rapid charging, fully juicing up its 4500mAh battery in just 21 minutes. However, concerns arise regarding heat dissipation during charging and battery lifespan.

Many experts and users alike express apprehension regarding such high charging power potentially compromising battery longevity. They argue that 200W for a smartphone at this juncture might be excessive, given the challenges in optimizing temperature and battery technology. Instead, manufacturers should aim for around 50W+ while striking a balance between charging speed and battery lifespan. This approach ensures prolonged usage without fretting over battery depletion, prior to delving into super-fast charging technologies with higher power output.

Clearly, excessively high charging power is bound to affect the battery lifespan. The question arises whether we truly need a 200W charger for a smartphone, or if 65W would suffice.
