After much anticipation and speculation, Yamaha unveiled the Exciter 155 VVA in late 2020, early 2021. Focused on upgrading various aspects, the bike aims to provide users with a more robust and impressive experience. However, many are questioning whether this generation of the Exciter 155 VVA is equipped with the ABS brake system.
The answer is NO.

Specifically, the Exciter 155 VAA features a front disc brake with a diameter of 245mm and 2 pistons (the Standard version has 1 piston), and a rear disc brake with a diameter of 230mm and 1 piston. However, the Exciter 155 VVA does not come with the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), a deficiency compared to its rival Honda, which equipped the Winner X with ABS since 2019.
Nevertheless, the Exciter 155 VVA is equipped with the Assisst & Slipper clutch system, enhancing clutch grip, preventing slippage, and avoiding rear wheel lock-up during high-speed downshifting. This feature adds an extra layer of safety for riders during operation.

Adding ABS to Exciter 155 VVA: Is it Worth It?
Certainly, the absence of ABS is a regrettable aspect of the Exciter 155 VVA. Some enthusiasts consider 'upgrading' their Exciter 155 VVA with ABS, with the cost ranging from approximately 10-15 million VND depending on the location. However, we advise against it for two reasons:
Firstly, retrofitting ABS to the Exciter 155 VVA involves significant intervention into the bike's internal structure, including sensors, ECU, etc. This means you would forfeit the official Yamaha warranty on your motorcycle.
Secondly, only a few entities possess the capability to retrofit ABS to motorcycles. Inexperienced technicians attempting this could lead to malfunctions, or even pose safety risks. Given its impact on the bike's electrical system, the process might even lead to electrical issues or, worse, a risk of fire.

Therefore, in the author's opinion, opting not to retrofit ABS to the Exciter 155 VVA is advisable.
In reality, the absence of ABS can be compensated by the presence of front and rear disc brakes, a 6-speed gearbox, and the A&S system. This combination ensures a satisfying riding experience with controlled speed and the power of the bike – a sensation sought by many when choosing a manual transmission motorcycle.
Exciter 155 VVA's Noteworthy Upgrades Compared to Its Predecessor
