According to detailed information shared in News Corp Australia, Muay Thai fighter and his trainer, working for PTJ Gladesville, were wearing the Watch Series 7. Accidentally, it activated Siri and made a false emergency call.
False alarms by Siri are not uncommonImmediately, the trainer was shocked as 15 armed police stormed into his gym room and ordered everyone to lie down. It was quite unsettling to have police barging in during a morning training session with his students. However, little did he know that the culprit behind him was the very watch he was wearing.
Moments later, the officers explained to the trainer that there had been a call to emergency services. As it turns out, the trainer often chants 1-1-2 during workouts for students to follow, which is a familiar slogan in gyms. In the US, 911 is the emergency call number, whereas in Australia, 112 is the emergency call number. This unfortunate event made the trainer realize that he had accidentally dialed this service when Siri was activated.
This incident led to the arrival of 15 armed police officers rushing into the gym.Not stopping there, when Siri successfully connected to the emergency service and simultaneously the instructor praised the trainee for 'hitting too well,' 'hitting too accurately,' 'hitting hard,'... This led the listener on the other end of the line to think it was a kidnapping, violence, and assault on others. Hence, the appearance of those 15 heavily armed police officers.
As we all know, Siri is the virtual assistant first released by Apple in 2011 alongside iOS 5. Since then, Siri has been gradually perfected and developed to be as smart as it is today. However, sometimes Siri still acts 'stupid' like when it interrupted the UK minister in 2018 or most recently, this event. Nevertheless, one cannot deny the intelligence and effectiveness of Siri.
Siri has successfully saved many people in distress multiple times. For instance, the rollover accident at the end of 2018, in Pahrump, Nevada, USA. According to NBC, a man named Nate Felix encountered an accident that caused his Jeep to flip over into a shallow lake. The collision pinned Felix under the vehicle, leaving him trapped and unable to move, although he was still conscious of what was happening around him.
In a critical moment, Felix smartly thought of using the virtual assistant Siri to call for help from someone without the need for direct manipulation. 'Hey Siri, call 911,' Felix commanded. Finally, the magic happened after Siri completed its mission. The rescue team identified Felix's location via GPS and took him to the nearest hospital. Upon arrival, doctors diagnosed Felix with 2 spinal fractures, rendering his hand and arm immobile.
If utilized properly, Siri can provide significant assistance to humans. In 2017, Andrew Cho - a renowned daredevil mountain climber known for his daring stunts with his mountain bike, was unaware of the serious consequences his performances would have. One evening, while Andrew was alone at home, he suddenly felt dizzy, then collapsed, paralyzed, and unable to move from his neck down.
Andrew even had to use his tongue to activate Siri and call 911. This quick thinking action helped him to contact the paramedics and immediately be taken to the hospital. Here, doctors diagnosed damage to the blood vessels in Andrew's C3 and C4 vertebrae, causing his paralysis.
It can be said that Siri is a very intelligent virtual assistant, but sometimes there will still be laughable mistakes. If we know how to fully exploit it, Siri will provide significant support in daily life.
