Letter to footballer Doan Van Hau
He is now indeed the new icon of the Vietnamese youth generation. His two goals in the recent SEA Games final brought the long-awaited gold medal for Vietnamese football. And over the past two years, the remarkable achievements of the Vietnamese national teams bear many marks of a still very young player like him.
Now Doan Van Hau has paved his way to Europe to play for a Dutch team, becoming a pride of his family, friends, and fans alike. But I, a middle school student, feel even more admiration for him knowing that Doan Van Hau used to be addicted to gaming to the point of almost jeopardizing his football career.
I heard from the media that back then, internet cafes were popping up everywhere, and the area around the youth football training center of Hanoi FC was no exception; at the age of 14, Van Hau even had the guts to climb walls to sneak out, skipping school, playing video games all night long. And finally, Van Hau was caught red-handed by the coaches at the club, coach Vu Hong Viet was so angry that he called home, inviting Van Hau's father to come and talk.
Reflections on the significant incident seem to have sparked a profound transformation in Doan Van Hau, undoubtedly, dedication and focus have contributed to shaping Doan Van Hau as he is today.
Because of this narrative, I decided to pen a letter sharing with you a common issue among many young people today, namely gaming addiction. While electronic games can foster creativity, perseverance, and agility, lack of self-control can lead to addiction and numerous adverse consequences.
Presently, many individuals, consumed by their passion for gaming, neglect their studies, forgetting their primary responsibilities, resulting in a notable decline in academic performance and causing distress within their families. This behavior may even erode one's self-confidence and lead to various other undesirable consequences that are unforeseeable...
What happens if one is addicted to gaming but lacks the funds to indulge? What actions will they take? Will they deceive their parents to obtain money for gaming, seek loans from others, or resort to theft? Many criminal activities, including robberies, have originated from the need for funds to sustain gaming habits.
Furthermore, it is genuinely concerning if students immerse themselves in the gaming world, forsaking beneficial forms of entertainment such as sports, arts, reading, life skills acquisition, or engaging in environmentally-friendly summer campaigns and youth volunteerism...
In conclusion, after discussing the aforementioned issue, all I can do is wish you success in your endeavors to become a role model for the youth, especially for those who, due to gaming addiction, lose sight of their life's purpose.
Here, the student has decided to send a letter to footballer Doan Van Hau to share views on the issue of gaming addiction among a portion of today's youth.
