Although relatively young, Drop In Cafe has left quite a mark on me: Discovering and visiting their first location in Hang Luoc, feeling disappointed when the cafe had to temporarily close during the first outbreak of the pandemic, and now returning more splendid than ever.
So what else does Drop In Cafe have to offer to keep me coming back? The answer is right below!
Prime Location
Situated with dual frontage at 163 Phung Hung (Hoan Kiem, Hanoi), it's hard for anyone passing by here not to notice Drop In Cafe.

Phung Hung Street embodies the distinctive characteristics of the Old Quarter, from its ancient architecture lining the railway or neighboring traditional stores, yet it's quieter compared to other streets in Hoan Kiem District. Therefore, this is a prime spot for cafes to offer customers an authentic Hanoi experience.
Drop In's sidewalk isn't overly spacious, accommodating about 5-7 motorbikes; if more, patrons may need to use the parking area across the street.
Ambiance
Overall Impression
The first thing that caught me by surprise was Drop In's revamped appearance compared to its days at Hang Luoc. Gone is the clean, white aesthetic; Drop In Cafe now boasts a vibrant orange-gold exterior that's hard to miss.

Let me spill a little secret - Drop In is still managed by the same owner. Since its days at Hang Luoc, I've heard him talk about his ventures abroad and his Vietnamese is still a bit rusty. He's incredibly friendly and approachable, often seen behind the counter mixing drinks and serving customers with enthusiasm. That's why the atmosphere in the cafe is always relaxed and cheerful.
A slight downside is that the operational area of Drop In Cafe's new location is a bit smaller. Although the frontage appears spacious, the depth of the venue is limited, with only one floor, resulting in a smaller overall space than expected.

Regardless, the cafe makes good use of outdoor seating on the sidewalk and the area near the windowsill, so there's still an adequate amount of seating available, and shortages are rare.
Decor & Interior
With its wide frontage and nearly all-glass design, Drop In's choice of architecture brings numerous advantages, providing both additional natural light and a view of the street outside.

Although the space isn't vast, it's arranged with comfortable seating density, avoiding any cramped or uncomfortable feeling. Except for the sidewalk area, indoor seating consists mainly of high tables and chairs, with some corners featuring long cushioned benches or bookshelves, study lamps - suitable for guests who need to work without much distraction.
A slight disappointment at the new Phung Hung location is that Drop In no longer displays many small plants or bookshelves like it used to at Hang Luoc. Nonetheless, the cafe still pays considerable attention to seasonal or holiday decorations (there are already eye-catching accessories prepared for the upcoming Christmas).
Service Quality
Beverages
With mostly moderate prices ranging from 30,000đ to 50,000đ, the menu at Drop In Cafe is very wallet-friendly for many. Especially noteworthy are the numerous unique recipes that set it apart from other places (you can check the 'specialties' section in the menu below).

Previously, I tried Ame-Quat and London Fog, both highly recommended. Particularly, Ame-Quat, made with coffee and kumquat, sounds peculiar but surprisingly smooth in taste!
This time at Drop In, I ordered Fansipan, which is basically a blend of coffee, milk, and whipped cream, very mild and easy to drink, pleasantly sweet without being too heavy, perfect for those new to coffee.

Music & Wi-Fi
Since the days of visiting the old Drop In at Hang Luoc, I've noticed the owner's super 'picky' playlist, filled with light Pop US-UK tunes. Up to now, it's become even more diverse but still maintains that sweet, cheerful vibe as before.
The Wi-Fi is strong and fast, no worries about interruptions for those who want to focus and get work done!
Service
Both staff members are easygoing, not to mention the owner himself always joins in serving, so there's no doubt about the level of hospitality towards customers.
While Hoan Kiem district is a dense hotspot for beautiful cafes, if you're looking to enjoy unique drinks with a view of Hanoi's characteristic railway street, don't overlook Drop In Cafe. You won't regret it, for sure!
