Dropbox has been less appealing to some Mac users than iCloud, partly due to its limited synchronization feature. While iCloud can synchronize the Documents and Desktop folders, Dropbox users had to settle for synchronizing a specific folder with the service. However, you might have a reason to pay more attention to this service in the near future. The 9to5Mac team has discovered that the latest Dropbox beta version for Mac has added the option to synchronize your Desktop, Documents, and Downloads folders.

This move comes just a few weeks after Dropbox revamped its core synchronization tool to make maintenance easier and improve reliability. Similar to iCloud, this becomes truly meaningful if you subscribe to one of Dropbox's paid plans (2GB is not enough). Nonetheless, it can be highly useful if you want cloud storage to serve more as a seamless backup for common files rather than a place to upload specific files.
