What makes Orianna reroll strong?
The inherent weakness of Sorcerers is their late power spike, requiring many champions and lacking in tankiness. Therefore, utilizing a 1-cost champion like Orianna (and adding Malzahar) addresses this weakness, helping maintain a stable health threshold in the mid-game before completing the transition to 6 or 8 Sorcerers in the late game to aim for the top spot. This composition is relatively straightforward to play, as you reroll at level 5 in a non-greedy fashion, paying attention only to itemization.
Itemizing for Orianna includes Shojin, Hextech Gunblade, and Infinity Edge. This is because Orianna needs to deal damage and heal the frontline with her abilities. Due to the quick cast time of her skills, the combination of Infinity Edge and Shojin is perfect for her. The next set of items can go to Malzahar, including Blue Buff, Giant Slayer, and Guardian Angel. Since this build prioritizes damage early on, tank items will go to Swain later. Look for a Last Whisper or Ionic Spark in the mid-game.
Core items to pick up: Gold Coin, Fly Like a Bird, Sweet Harvest, Sorcerer's Orb, Overflowing Energy, Wand of Power, Broken Education...
How to play and team composition
As you need to play with tempo and maintain health from the start, it's crucial to get the right items for Orianna early on. Therefore, Twisted Fate is the top choice as a legendary unit. Play this composition if you manage to get AP items or Orianna early on. In fact, you can force this strategy in any match, but having Orianna early can help you sustain better.
Expect to lose some rounds because you need time to get items from Pandora's Box. The priority order is Infinity Edge >> Shojin >> Hextech Gunblade. In the carousel rounds, pick the highest-cost champions or take Spatula to counter Sorcerer compositions. However, prioritize picking up a Golden Spatula if possible, as hitting the 8 Sorcerer threshold at level 7 is crucial.
Start slow-rolling for Orianna and Malzahar at level 5 until you reach 3 stars. Pick up all Swain and Taric you can, and if you have enough gold, also go for Vel'Koz to deny other Sorcerer players. At this point, scout the lobby; usually, after rolling for Orianna and Malzahar, you'll reach level 6 to find Swain. However, Swain is often contested in the current meta, so you can switch to Kassadin, which provides similar effectiveness at 3 stars.
If you have an early win streak and roll 2 carries early on, don't continue rerolling. Instead, save gold to level up and complete the 6 Sorcerer threshold as early as possible. If you have 2 well-equipped carries, the tank lineup only needs Taric alongside a 2-star Kassadin, reaching level early will help add more Sorcerers to maximize damage. Achieving the 6 and 8 Sorcerer thresholds almost gives all your champions an extra item, so leveling up is usually a more sensible choice than rerolling.
If you play well in the mid-game, you should reach level 8 around stage 5-2, hitting the 6 or 8 Sorcerer thresholds and completing the team with the third carry being Silco or Ahri, depending on which champion reaches 2 stars first. If you don't have an Infinity Edge, stop at level 6 and include a 5-cost champion like Heimerdinger to grab a 3-repair glove for additional tankiness.
Only go for the 8 Sorcerer threshold if you have beautiful items. Ideally, it would be a Sorcerer Spatula plus another milestone item or a carousel item. If you find your tank lineup too weak and unable to withstand, cut down to 6 Sorcerers; otherwise, wait until level 9 if possible.
The Orianna strategy is relatively easy to execute. The key is to have a strong tempo and roll early for a 3-star unit to pressure the lobby's health. Play this composition if you are tired of the Sorcerer meta.
