Stanley Pierre-Louis, the President and CEO of ESA (the organization behind E3), confirmed this information to The Washington Post. 'We understand that the entire industry - including gamers and creators - has a lot of passion for E3. We share some of that passion too. We know it's going to be tough to say goodbye to this event, but it's the right thing to do, opening up new opportunities for this industry to reach fans and partners.'
The E3 Expo was once the most anticipated event of the year for gamers, providing not only new information but also featuring playable demos and a plethora of official giveaways. Additionally, the event showcased interactive activities, interviews, and workshops to promote the gaming industry.
However, before the COVID pandemic, the E3 Expo had started to stagnate and become less appealing to some partners. During the COVID period, the use of online event streaming gained popularity among game developers and publishers, proving its effectiveness. E3 grew weaker as gaming companies opted for individual online streaming events. The offline event format also faced competition from new and more flexible rivals, such as the Summer Game Fest organized by Geoff Keighley (the creator of The Game Awards).
Thus, after the World Cyber Games, the E3 Expo has become the second global-scale gaming event to exit the stage, no longer fitting the current era.
