Online passport application process, register for a passport online on PC or Mobile devices

1. Online Passport Application Eligibility

According to the Immigration Management Bureau under the Ministry of Public Security, the method of online passport application, registering for an online passport, is only applicable to citizens who meet the following requirements:

- Vietnamese citizens with a valid chip-embedded ID card or a 12-digit citizen identification.
- Possession of a valid account on the National Public Service Portal.

2. Online Passport Application on PC

Step 1: Access the National Public Service Portal through the link HERE. Then, click Register.

- Choose the registration method Citizen => Verify medium level with Mobile Subscription.

Step 2: Enter Personal Information in the provided fields.

- Press Register.

Note:

If encountering account creation errors, it's likely that the registration information doesn't match your subscription details. To resolve, you can contact your network provider to update your phone's SIM card details.

Step 3: Next, the system will send a verification code to your phone, enter the OTP code in the provided field => press Confirm.

- Enter the Registration Password, ensure it's at least 8 characters long, including lowercase letters, uppercase letters, numbers, and special characters => Register.

Step 4: Return to the homepage of the National Public Service Portal, click Login.

- Select Account provided by the National Public Service Portal.

- Enter Username (ID card number), Password, and Verification Code => Login.

- Enter the OTP code sent to your phone => press Confirm.

Step 5: Enter Passport in the search box => press the magnifying glass icon.

- Choose Ordinary passport without electronic chip domestically (currently issued centrally).

- Click Submit Online.

Step 6: Upload a 4x6 Portrait Photo, Front/Back of ID card with chip (Note: image format must be .jpg and size 2MB). Then, enter all personal information.

- Scroll down and select the type of passport requested, Receiving Agency, and Place to receive the passport.

- Download the Declaration form for lost ordinary passport, Authenticated document copy, and Most recently issued ordinary passport => click Agree and Continue.

3. Online Passport Application on Android, iPhone

To apply for a passport online on your phone, you'll first need to create an account on the National Public Service Portal. If you don't have an account yet, you can refer to the guide in the following article for easy registration.

Step 1: Open your browser and access the National Public Service Portal HERE. Then, click the Menu icon => select Login.

- Click Account provided by the National Public Service Portal.

Step 2: Enter Username (ID card number), Password, and Verification Code => press Login => enter the OTP code sent to your phone => Confirm.

Step 3: Enter the keyword Passport in the search box => press the Search icon => select Ordinary passport without electronic chip domestically (currently issued centrally).

- Click Submit Online.

Step 4: Upload 4x6 portrait photo, Front & Back of ID card with chip => fill in all information from sections 1 to 13.

- Choose Content of passport application, enter Details of the application content, and Select type of passport application => Choose Receiving agency, Place to receive the passport, and Register refund information.

- Perform download and save the required forms to be submitted for approval => click Agree and Continue.

4. Processing Time, Fees, and Validity of Online Passports

- Typically, the processing time for online passport applications is within 8 working days from the day of receiving complete documents as per regulations.
- The new online passport fee is 200,000 VND + postal service fee (if applicable).
- The validity of the new passport will be 10 years from the date of issue.
