If you're tired of entering passwords every time you log into eBay on your mobile browser, the e-commerce giant has now rolled out passwordless login experience, allowing Android users to use biometric sensors to log into eBay.
eBay allows Android users to use facial recognition/fingerprint authentication on its mobile website.
- Download eBay for Android.
- Download eBay for iPhone.
eBay has implemented this new authentication technique based on WebAuthn, a new standard for biometric authentication for web browsers. You'll be prompted to enable facial recognition/fingerprint mode the next time you access eBay's web version on Chrome as shown below.
Once you've enabled this feature, you can easily use your phone's biometric authentication to log into your eBay account, just like how you unlock your smartphone. Additionally, you can also use screen lock to log into the website.
This feature is compatible with Chrome version 75 and above. In case the feature doesn't work, make sure your browser is updated to the latest version on Google Play Store.
An eBay post stated that support for other platforms will be added in the future. With the implementation of this feature, eBay has become a pioneer among e-commerce giants in providing seamless login experiences for both customers and sellers. Hopefully in the future, more companies will adopt this feature for their mobile websites.
It's worth noting that this isn't the first time we've seen biometric authentication on eBay. In fact, the company's Android and iOS apps have allowed users to authenticate with biometric sensors for quite some time now.
