Guide to Editing Photos with SkyDrive in Windows 8.1
In the past, when Windows 8/8.1 was introduced, Microsoft's cloud storage service was known as SkyDrive until early 2014. Microsoft officially rebranded its cloud storage service as OneDrive, offering users 10GB of free storage. Users looking to use OneDrive need a Microsoft account. Assume you've logged into your Microsoft account on Windows 8.1.
We can edit photos in OneDrive using the following method:
1. Edit photos directly on the computer
On the computer, you'll find the cloud icon at This PC, marked as (1), and on the Desktop interface as (2).
Left-clicking on (1) or (2) will open the interface of OneDrive.
This folder contains computer data that will synchronize with OneDrive when we connect the computer to the Internet.
Assuming we have image files in the Pictures folder on OneDrive, we can right-click directly on the image file we want to edit and select Edit.
Windows program will default to Paint on Windows; from here, we can use the functions of Paint.
After completing the photo editing, select to save the image on OneDrive, and the data will be synchronized online.
2. Editing with Windows 8.1 Photos for OneDrive images
On the Desktop screen (Start Screen or Apps), press the “Window + C” key combination, and choose Settings.
In this step, select Change PC settings to proceed.
In this step, choose OneDrive to proceed.
For this step, select File storage (1), then opt for See my files on OneDrive (2).
Within the OneDrive storage service, we opt for Pictures.
In the Pictures folder, you'll find all your image files. Choose the image you want to edit by clicking on it. For example, 04.jpg.
By default, OneDrive opens images using the Photos program. Select Edit to modify the image.
From this screen, we interact exclusively with the selected image using Photos. After editing, save the file as 04(2).jpg if choosing Save a copy, or directly overwrite 04.jpg if selecting Update original.
