In the movie 'One Piece: Strong World,' the original plan was to explore more about Nami's birth. However, the filmmakers felt this idea was ultimately too heavy and saddening for the audience. Therefore, author Eiichiro Oda had to make some changes in the storyline.
Oda himself admitted this in a 2016 commentary, revealing that the original story was too intense and he had to make adjustments to make everything lighter for the children.
Bell-mère brought them both to Cocoyasi village and adopted them. They became a true family, marking the beginning of Nami's story. Oda felt it was poignant to delve deeper into Nami's backstory in the manga.
