II. Sample Essay Elaboration on Electric Fans
1. Introduction to the extraordinary fan, model 1:
Among the various household items, we are perhaps the most common. We work tirelessly on scorching hot summer days. I'm sure you already know who I am. I'm the fan. I am delighted to meet and interact with you to introduce our family.
Perhaps for a very long time, the fan family has been present in the lives of humans since the appearance of humans or when they had feelings. I have heard many stories about the fan family; there is a story that from ancient times, fans could create magical power and were used for kings and royal courts. Since then, we came into existence in your joy. It's really interesting!
Our fan family is very diverse, consisting of two major branches: the electric fan family and the manual fan family. Although the electric fan family is dominant and has a higher market position, the manual fan has a rich history and cultural significance. We always help each other to better serve your lives. I am always proud because each member of the fan family brings unique features with many practical benefits.
The electric fan family comprises ceiling fans, floor fans, hanging fans, and even table fans. They are crafted with modern technologies, consisting of two main components: the electric motor and the fan blades.
Our blades are fitted with the electric motor shaft, made of either plastic or metal. The design of their electric fan blades leaves traditional paper fans in awe as they create a refreshing breeze when in motion. Do you know that the protective grille is our best friend? It always safeguards and shelters the wings of our electric fan family. You must take good care of it because the protective grille also ensures safety for the users.
The second main component of their electric fan family is the electric motor, containing essential devices for our operation. Our electric motor section is no different from the human brain.
In addition, the electric fan family has an outer casing usually made of plastic for insulation, preventing electrical leakage inside from posing a danger during use. On our bodies, there is a speed control, wind direction adjustment, and timer setting. In table fans and floor fans, there is a convenient carrying handle near the protective grille, while ceiling fans and wall-mounted fans have wall-mounting hooks. Next to us, you will always be safe. Some members of the electric fan family even have circular-shaped legs for easy maneuvering. But, dear friends, we will always serve you well if you know how to take care of us. Remember to clean us regularly for a clean appearance. This way, we can catch everyone's attention. Don't forget to oil us for efficient operation.
Although electric fans are modern and practical, manual fans should not be underestimated. Despite their simple structure and rudimentary materials like paper or split bamboo, many people still trust them. Since ancient times, when technology was not advanced, manual fans were closely associated with farmers in their daily lives. During festivals, you often see us in the hands of the elderly and those offering incense. Our paper fans wear a thin layer made of paper, split bamboo, or even silk fabric. Our soft yet sturdy flexible framework is made of bamboo. In modern life, with the development of science and technology, manual fans are less used compared to various types of electric fans. However, during power outages, manual fans play a crucial role. Our manual fan relatives are even more proud after the smooth and melodious folk songs.
Not only that, we are also used for decoration in homes or festivals. I am saddened by the fact that the lifespan of manual fans is not high. However, this makes people take even more care of us. I heard that nowadays, even air conditioners are invented, but that doesn't mean we are unemployed because humans always need us, right?
We hope to exert our utmost effort to serve humanity and not let you down. If you treat us well, I believe your lives will be happier and more refreshing than ever.
Our manual fan family is very proud of ourselves because we have been a part of your lives. Being trusted and used by you is already delightful for us. I hope in the future, more people will get to know us. Well, goodbye everyone, the boss is back from work, and I have to get to work too.
Fans nowadays come in both electric and manual types. Despite their distinct features, their common purpose is to provide cooling. Additionally, manual fans serve as decorative items in homes, showcasing artistic expressions.
Manual fans have a long history, with tales of extraordinary feats. The legendary Lady La Sat used her triple-bladed fan to propel Sun Wukong ten thousand miles with just a single wave. Author Ngo Thua An spoke of the immense power of the fan. In ancient societies, fans made of beautiful feathers were used by kings for comfort during midday naps, while scholars used paper fans to display their elegance and education. Nowadays, manual fans mainly consist of paper and bamboo. As the name suggests, the materials include paper and small, thin bamboo strips. Although traditional patterns are still followed, modern designs feature beautiful shapes such as dragons and phoenixes.
When I was young, I asked my grandmother:
Grandma, why does our fan at home rotate by itself?
It's because it has a magic hand inside, dear - my grandmother chuckled.
Now, I understand why electric fans rotate on their own. Within the fan, there are components called the rotor and stator. Plugging the fan into an outlet sends electricity to the rotor, causing it to rotate. The rotor is connected to an iron rod linked to the fan blades. Thus, when the rotor rotates, the fan blades spin, creating airflow. The main components of a fan are the rotating part, consisting of the stator, rotor, and fan blades, and the control part, which includes buttons. Additionally, the housing and protective cage for the fan blades are essential components to make a complete fan. The iconic pedestal fan, once prevalent in our society in the latter half of the 20th century, has been phased out of the market. Today, there is a wide range of electric fans available, from affordable options like the 'MD Desktop Fan' to high-end models like the 'Euro Remote Control Fan.' From the 'ASIA Floor Fan' to the 'Tiny Ceiling Fan with Curtains.' All of these are just a few examples among the myriad electric fan products available today. While I may only know about the production process of electric fans, I still acknowledge that the inventor of the electric motor is a genius.
Nowadays, modern cooling technologies such as air conditioners and coolers are prevalent in the market, but perhaps fans will always have their own place.
3. Exposition on the Electric Fan, Sample 3:
The fan is an ancient tool created by our ancestors to bring relief in sweltering weather. Besides providing a cooling breeze, it is also utilized as a decorative item hanging indoors, serving cultural activities such as dances...
Vietnam falls within the tropical climate zone, and during the scorching summer, the demand for cooling is widespread. The fan was introduced to help people alleviate the oppressive heat during this season.
Fans, in general, are divided into 2 categories: Hand fans and Electric fans.
Regarding hand fans, there are various types: Reed fans (made from bamboo reeds), Areca palm leaf fans (crafted from betel palm leaves), Paper fans (made from paper), Foam sheet fans (created from board or foam products)... To craft a traditional reed fan, one needs to prepare materials such as 8-12 thin arched bamboo sticks, paper, scissors, and glue. Arrange the bamboo sticks, stack one onto the other, and insert a hole through the tip of each stick, securing them with a shaft so they can easily separate into fan shapes and fold back effortlessly. Then, separate the fan shapes, place 2 paper sheets on them, and cut them into desired arc shapes. Use glue to attach the cut paper sheets on both sides of the fan shapes evenly. Voila, we have a simple fan that can be opened and folded.
As for Electric fans (powered by electricity), there are also various types: desk fans, wall-mounted fans, ceiling fans, ventilation fans, bladeless fans, misting fans... Depending on the cooling needs and budget, one can visit an electronics store or a appliance shop to purchase an electric fan with desired functionalities. Bring the fan home, plug it in, turn it on, and cool the entire house.
In terms of convenience, electric fans may provide stronger cooling, and since they are powered, we can enjoy a cool breeze without the need for a hand fan, whether lying down, playing, or doing anything throughout the day without feeling tired. Moreover, we can schedule the fan to turn on or off, which is very convenient. However, when there is no electricity, electric fans won't work, and in such cases, hand fans become the most useful for everyone.
Since ancient times, many craftsmen in the Vietnamese villages have been crafting fans, with the highest concentration in the northern regions. Numerous craft villages dedicated to fan-making have flourished alongside the ups and downs of the homeland. Notably, the fan has become a cultural and artistic symbol deeply embedded in the cultural life of the Vietnamese people through folk tales, poetry, folk songs, as exemplified in the story of Thang Bom:
'Thang Bom with his palm-leaf fan
Mr. Phu Ong proposes three oxen and nine buffaloes in exchange'
Poet Vuong Trong wrote the poem 'Wind from Mother's Hand' in 1974, which is the finest piece about the reed fan. The lines go:
'Reed fan like leaves
Flickering and swaying
Thin, adhesive reed fan
The breeze from the tree top
Sometimes takes a break
The wind from mother's hand
Blows through day and night'.
