Just 3 days into assuming the role of 'Chief Twit,' Musk swiftly initiated substantial changes at Twitter.
Immediately following the successful acquisition of Twitter, Elon Musk issued the first ultimatum to the social media platform's employees: Meet the deadline to launch the account verification fee feature or resign.
This directive aims to replace Twitter Blue – a $4.99/month subscription feature unlocking additional platform features for users. Musk's new plan intends to impose a higher fee for verified accounts.
According to sources from The Verge, Twitter plans to charge $19.99 for new Twitter Blue subscriptions. Under the current plan, users have 90 days to subscribe or lose their blue checkmarks. Project team members stated on Sunday that they need to complete this project by Elon Musk's deadline of 7/11 or face termination.
Musk had been clear for months before finalizing the deal with Twitter that he wants to revamp Twitter's account verification process and address the bot issue. On Sunday, he tweeted, 'All account verification processes will be changed immediately.'
Just 3 days into his role as 'Chief Twit,' Musk swiftly executed major changes at Twitter, starting with a homepage revamp. Now, when users log out, they'll be redirected to the Explore page, showcasing trending posts and suggested content.
Previously, logging out of Twitter only displayed a registration prompt, encouraging account creation to access content.
Following that, Elon Musk brought Tesla engineers on board at Twitter as advisors and planned a mass layoff targeting mid-level managers and less-contributing engineers. The downsizing is expected to commence this week, and sources indicate that the management has finalized the list of those to be laid off.
In response to the request to change the Twitter Blue subscription fees mentioned earlier, project team members revealed they had to work late into the night, even on weekends, to meet Elon Musk's timeline.
Twitter Blue was introduced last year as a premium subscription service. Joining this service provides Twitter users with additional options and features that regular accounts cannot access.
More specifically, Twitter Blue users will have access to a special feature called Bookmark Folders, allowing them to organize tweets into separate folders for easier searching and management.
Furthermore, there will be an option allowing users to choose new color themes for the app interface, accompanied by custom icons and symbols. The new 'Reader Mode' facilitates convenient reading of longer content.
Specifically, subscribers to the Twitter Blue service will possess an extremely useful feature called 'Undo Tweet,' allowing them to hold a tweet for a specified time before posting it, so users can undo it if they change their minds.
More precisely, this feature enables you to set a timer for up to 30 seconds, during which you can retract your tweet and make necessary changes before posting it. Importantly, the feature also provides you with a preview time to see your tweet before anyone else can view it.
