Cao Phong serves as a major hub for oranges, not only in Hòa Bình province but also throughout the Northern region. The largest orange cultivation area in Cao Phong district is concentrated around Cao Phong town and Tây Phong commune.
In recent years, orange cultivation has expanded to include some communes such as Dũng Phong, Tân Phong, Nam Phong... Here, 6 or 7 varieties of oranges are grown, including Canh oranges, golden-hearted oranges, ruby-red pulp oranges, Xã Đoài oranges.
Early November marks the beginning of the main harvesting season for Cao Phong oranges.
These days, along National Highway 6 passing through Cao Phong town in Hòa Bình, one can easily recognize the yellow color of countless orange groves lining the road.
Everywhere, bustling scenes of traders converge to hunt, buy, and transport oranges for consumption far and wide.


Cao Phong is a region of gentle hills, primarily with Feralit soil. The favorable weather conditions create ideal conditions for orange trees to grow, flourish, and produce high-quality, delicious, juicy oranges with a delightful aroma.
For a long time, Cao Phong oranges have been the main crop, helping to alleviate hunger and poverty for the local people.
If you have the chance to visit Cao Phong during this season, you can buy oranges as gifts for family, relatives, and friends. Food enthusiasts often choose oranges with a light yellow color, large size, juicy flesh, not as glossy as Chinese oranges.
When peeled, they have a very distinctive aroma, especially when cut from the branch for 1 day, both the leaves and the fruit wither instead of staying fresh because no preservatives are used, but the quality is not affected.


Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, currently working in Hanoi, reveals that her hometown in Cao Phong is home to several hills of orange trees.
Every year, she drives back to buy bags of oranges, but this year she noticed a higher demand for oranges from her female colleagues at work and acquaintances. So, she often seizes the opportunity to come home to personally pick oranges and bring them to sell in Hanoi. This not only earns her extra income but also ensures that everyone has clean and guaranteed oranges to eat.
Currently, the price of Cao Phong oranges fluctuates between 30,000 and 40,000 VND/kg. Among them, golden-hearted oranges and Canh oranges are favored for their juicy sweetness, commanding higher prices ranging from 5,000 to 15,000 VND/kg.
