Temppeliaukio Church: Helsinki's Rock Church
Temppeliaukio Church is located in the northern part of the Hietaniemi district in Helsinki, designed by Timo and Tuomo Suomalainen in the late 1960s. Its most distinctive feature is the underground interior built directly from ancient bedrock of the Helsinki peninsula.
Inside the church, natural light floods in through the glazed dome, bathing most of the space in sunlight throughout the day. It also serves as a quality concert hall - where perfect reverberating sounds are crafted from the stone surfaces within.
