Tà Chì Nhù stands tall as one of the top 10 highest mountains in Vietnam, nestled in the renowned Hoàng Liên Sơn mountain range. Often dubbed the kingdom for cloud hunters, this mountain offers breathtaking vistas veiled in mist. Unlike its counterpart, the roof of Indochina, Fansipan, the path to Tà Chì Nhù poses greater challenges with Yên Bái's rocky terrain, featuring steep and seemingly endless ascents. Nevertheless, Tà Chì Nhù remains one of the captivating northern destinations, worth experiencing at least once.
1. Where is Tà Chì Nhù located?
Tà Chì Nhù, also known as Phu Song Sung in the Thai ethnic language, or Chung Chua Nhà in the Mông ethnic language, towers at an altitude of 2,979 meters, situated in Trạm Tấu district, Yên Bái province.

Nestled deep within the Phú Lương (Pú Luông) mountain ranges, part of the Hoàng Liên Sơn range, Tà Chì Nhù boasts complex terrain with steep slopes, some almost vertical, and harsh climate. However, it captivates with its ethereal beauty of endless clouds and mountain breezes.
In recent years, this peak has become an intriguing destination for travel enthusiasts and mountain climbers. Particularly, with a short conquering time (2 days, 1 night), Tà Chì Nhù is an ideal weekend getaway for busy individuals.
2. Guide to Conquering Tà Chì Nhù Peak
You can catch a ride from Mỹ Đình bus station to Nghĩa Lộ in the evening. Spend a night at a homestay and begin your journey early the next morning. From Nghĩa Lộ, it's about 30km to Trạm Tấu town, with a fairly good road where you can rent a motorbike. Once there, you can ask for directions and buy any necessary supplies.
Start your journey early in the morning to have ample time and energy.
The hike from Trạm Tấu to the starting point (Mỏ Chì) isn't far. If you're not accustomed to mountain climbing, it'll take at least 5-6 hours to ascend from Mỏ Chì to the camping site at 2600m. Allow an additional 2 hours to reach the summit.

The ascent is quite steep, with various terrain types ranging from smooth roads to rocky paths and occasional landslides, with few branches for support. Along the way, you'll come across some makeshift campsites where locals rest and herd horses. Feel free to stop and rest at these spots, have some pre-prepared snacks to refuel, and continue your journey.
Tà Chì Nhù ascent route might be challenging, but once you reach the top, you'll find the effort entirely worthwhile. It's a mountain peak shrouded in clouds, welcoming the sunrise with a sea of clouds beneath your feet, truly magnificent. There are mountain ranges stretching endlessly, with rivers and streams, creating a romantic natural scenery. The scene atop Tà Chì Nhù is like a giant, comforting mattress that everyone wishes to sink into.
3. Essential preparations for the journey.
At least 2 weeks prior to your trip, you need to set a specific itinerary, prepare necessary essentials, and plan physical conditioning. For the Tà Chì Nhù mountain climb, besides personal gear, you must bring along your own tent and sleeping bag. However, it's advisable to contact local residents beforehand for guidance and to prepare some food supplies.

Unlike some other peaks in the Hoàng Liên Sơn range like Fansipan (Lào Cai) and Pu Ta Leng (Lai Châu), the solitary path to the summit of Tà Chì Nhù involves numerous steep slopes, traversing through dense foliage. Climbers must exercise extreme caution, regulate their breathing, and stick closely to the group throughout the journey. It's advisable to check the weather forecast beforehand to avoid slippery conditions and landslides on rainy or windy days.
Despite these challenges, on clear days, you'll have the opportunity to admire stretches of forest bathed in afternoon sunlight, the Milky Way gleaming above as you rest at the camping site, and a sea of clouds enveloping the summit in the early morning. Undoubtedly, these experiences will be unforgettable in the journeys of youth.
Additionally, prepare extra food and drinks for the journey, ensuring 3-4 light meals for the entire group during the climb. Don't forget to pack medications, bandages, and ointments to address any issues along the way!
We hope the Tà Chì Nhù climbing experiences shared by Vntrip.vn here will help you have a truly enjoyable and fascinating journey!
