A journey spanning over 2,200 km with fascinating experiences along the regions along the route from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi marks the memorable honeymoon of the couple Kim Trang and Duc An.
Embarking on a Journey Across Vietnam: A Saigonese 90s Couple's Tale

Long harboring the dream of an extensive trip, Duc An, right after the wedding, suggests to his wife a cross-Vietnam adventure, aiming to explore new regions and create more bonding memories together.
Receiving an enthusiastic nod from his partner, Duc An and his wife Kim Trang quickly materialize that desire with a 21-day journey (from April 8 to April 27) exploring various regions of the country along the route: Saigon – Vung Tau – Lagi – Phan Thiet – Mui Ne – Bau Trang – Nha Trang – Phu Yen – Quy Nhon – Quang Nam – Hoi An – Da Nang – Hue – Quang Binh – Ninh Binh – Ha Long – Hanoi.
The journey is carried out on their familiar motorbike, with a total budget for the trip around 30 million VND. Approximately 7 million VND is allocated for repairing and checking the bike, buying protective gear, and necessary items before hitting the road. The preparation process also brings many memorable moments to the young couple, filled with excitement and curiosity about the upcoming journey.
Reasons Behind Choosing the Ho Chi Minh City – Hanoi Journey
This marks my first long motorcycle journey. In the past, I had a few short trips, around 100 km, with my university friends. This cross-Vietnam journey can be considered as our honeymoon, as it was undertaken just after completing our wedding ceremony.
Before, when we were still in love, we had the opportunity to visit various provinces in the Mekong Delta. To make the trip more special and meaningful, we discussed and chose the route from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi to explore more of Vietnam together.
A Completely Altered Definition of Adventure
In the past, I often chose buses or planes as the main means of transportation for trips, thinking that motorcycles were quite dangerous, time-consuming, and affected health. However, after this journey, I found traveling by motorbike to be very interesting.
While before, I would get on a car or a plane, sleep, and arrive at my destination, this time, on every road we traveled, I had the chance to admire and savor anything I wanted, as I was completely in control of the transportation.

Choosing a motorbike allowed me to take complete control of my journey. Unlike traveling by bus or plane where you can sleep through the entire journey, and the exploration only begins after checking into your hotel and hitting the streets.
But motorbike trips are different. You can take in everything within your sight during your entire journey. I had to continuously exclaim 'wow... wow' as I glided along the stunning coastal roads from Phan Thiet to Quy Nhon, the pristine white sand stretches in Phan Ri, the vibrant golden rice fields in Phu Yen, or the enchanting Hai Van Pass...
Tired of riding a motorbike? Rest whenever you want. The couple could easily stop on a small beachside strip in Central Vietnam, rush into local eateries, try Da Nang's specialties... anywhere to leave their mark and capture their moments. These are places that, if traveling by bus, I would probably never have the opportunity to appreciate their beauty.
It's a different kind of feeling when you're standing here, immersing yourself in the breathtaking natural scenery that you once only saw in movies. I find that amazing. Truly, the journey has completely changed the meaning of the word 'adventure' for me.

Traveling and Enjoying Cuisine
Before the trip, we spent quite a bit of time thoroughly researching and planning the specific itinerary. Most places we visited did not disappoint.
However, no matter how thoroughly we 'researched,' both of us couldn't escape getting lost many times and taking detours due to Google Maps' directions.
Alongside the routes, I believe that dining is also a significant issue in everyone's journey, no matter where you go. Both of us explored famous dining spots in the places we visited.
Nevertheless, there were a few times we failed, either because the dishes we ordered were unfamiliar, or we ordered too much and couldn't finish. The lesson learned is to order slowly, a few dishes at a time, and order more if still hungry.
Favorite Destinations
Every stopping point brought excitement and different feelings. But perhaps because of our preference for simplicity and gentleness, I especially loved the beauty of Hoi An, Ninh Binh, and Hanoi.

Upon arriving in Hoi An, I instantly fell in love. The ancient town was serene during the day but vibrant and bustling in the evening. Trang An – Ninh Binh left me in awe of its majestic and breathtaking natural scenery. Hanoi, while as lively as Saigon, still retained a touch of antiquity.
Those are my top 3 favorite places, and I might revisit them in the future.
Collaboration and Mutual Support with Your Travel Companion
One of the crucial factors contributing to the 'success' of every journey is having a harmonious travel companion. For us, on this very long trip, as a couple, we had to put in extra effort into 'controlling emotions.' Despite thorough discussions beforehand, disagreements were inevitable during the journey.

To overcome unnecessary conflicts, we clearly divided tasks and responsibilities to resolve issues more efficiently.
Regarding transportation and route selection, my husband had the sole authority as he was the one driving. Occasionally, he made wrong turns, leading to tiresome detours. Certainly, any woman in such a situation might feel a bit frustrated.
Each time, I reminded myself to dispel those negative emotions because, from the start, I entrusted him with trust. In return, he also relinquished decision-making power regarding meals and accommodations to me. I believe that with specific assignments and understanding of our responsibilities, both of us can avoid unnecessary conflicts to the maximum extent.
Moreover, long journeys can drain a lot of energy. Therefore, before deciding on an extended adventure, focus on health considerations. During our travels, my husband and I made sure to take breaks whenever fatigue set in.
Fortunately, throughout the trip, both of us maintained excellent health. I paid attention to eating properly and getting enough sleep to stay mentally comfortable each day on the move. My husband was always supportive, encouraging me whenever I felt sore or tired.
And finally, the two of us successfully completed the journey.
Planning for such a trip, what do couples need to prepare?
The advice I offer is based on my own experience:
– Most importantly, thoroughly check your vehicle before setting out to avoid any risks.
– Ensure complete protective gear: Helmet, sun-resistant jacket, sunglasses, sturdy shoes, carry pain relievers, flu medicine, etc.
– Minimize your luggage for optimal convenience.
– Research and plan your itinerary before departure. Explore food and accommodation options once you reach your destination. However, I prefer to be proactive and gather information beforehand.

– Avoid carrying excessive cash. Carry cards and withdraw when necessary.
– Equip yourself with essential rescue knowledge.
– Mentally prepare for potential risks during the journey and coordinate to resolve them together.
– Finally, maintain a balanced diet and get enough sleep for overall well-being before and during your travels.
