Dalat - in the eyes of every visitor who has ever set foot here and departed with nostalgia - is a land of harmonious convergence, of nature's benevolence, of vibrant youthful vitality. Yet, who would know that behind the bustling facade of this tourist city lies hidden simplicity, rustic charm, and purity. On the train journey to rediscover this ancient land, one might suddenly feel nostalgic and sentimental.

A Historic Stopover
The journey back in time transports you to the historical Dalat, over 100 years ago, when everything was still in its infancy, wild and untamed, with only mountains, forests, and vegetation as companions on this land. Around the year 1893, the Lang Biang Plateau was inhabited by the Thượng people - a small tribe amidst the wilderness of human history.
At that time, a Vietnamese man named Nguyen Thong harbored the intention to explore the hidden corners of the Vietnamese land. However, until the end of his life, he could not fulfill that desire. Thus, the Dalat tourist destination once again remained tranquil, seemingly untouched by exploration.

Through the ebbs of history, the land of Dalat welcomed its first explorers, naval doctor Paul Neis and lieutenant A. Septans. They were the trailblazers, marking significant milestones for future explorers to set foot on the Lang Biang Plateau and continue the ongoing exploration.
But perhaps Dalat truly underwent a transformation when Dr. Yersin set foot on this plateau. In January 1893, he was entrusted by the French authorities to survey a road route from Saigon to the area inhabited by the Thượng people. By June, he discovered the Lang Biang Plateau.
Being a knowledgeable individual with far-reaching vision and an ability to perceive nature and climate, Yersin affirmed to the colonial administrator Paul Doumer that the Lang Biang Plateau was a land with a mild climate and fertile soil suitable for establishing a resort. Subsequently, a sanatorium was built here, ushering in a new era for this land and serving as the precursor to the foremost tourist destination in Dalat in Vietnam today.

That was the first stop on a journey to rediscover the seemingly forgotten treasures of the past. With the benevolence of nature and the support of generations of people, Dalat has flourished remarkably. From being a town in the province of Lam Vien to owning two vital arteries connecting with Saigon and Phan Thiet, it has finally evolved into the premier tourist destination in Vietnam today. This is the glorious history of our nation, enduring through countless trials and tribulations, safeguarding and nurturing this land.
The train journey takes us back to a bygone era, reminding us of the precious values and instilling a sense of gratitude and pride for the beauty of today.
