Hòn Cau (or Cù Lao Câu), an island located in Tuy Phong district, Bình Thuận province. It earns its name because it's rich in sea grapes. This small island lies about 10km away from the mainland, stretching 1.5km in length and approximately 800m at its widest point.

This beautiful and untouched small island is suitable for beach-loving tourists and those who want to explore new and exotic beauty. Stepping onto Cù Lao Câu, you'll feel a different beauty and atmosphere compared to other beaches.

The 4th lunar month full moon is the perfect time to visit Hòn Cau and join the fishing festival organized annually by fishermen in the Tuy Phong coastal area. This is a traditional festival where fishermen pray for favorable weather, abundant fisheries, and a prosperous year.

The island is also home to the Nam Hai temple, a shrine of great significance to fishermen, serving as a protective deity amidst the vast ocean, empowering people in their endeavor to conquer nature for sustenance. Hence, every 4th lunar month sees a grand festival attracting hundreds of people to the island for festivities and prayers.

The fishing festival on Cù Lao Câu island attracts many tourists to explore the religious customs and rugged beauty of the island. You can choose to depart for Hòn Cau from Liên Hương ferry terminal or Phước Thể fishing port. Unlike before when tourists only had one option of traveling by fishermen's boats or border patrol vessels, now there are specialized speedboat services catering to tourists' needs.

It usually takes about 30 - 40 minutes to reach Hòn Cau on calm sea days with ticket prices ranging from 200,000 - 250,000 VND per person. Tourists need not worry too much about transportation or food on the island as there are many agencies and individuals organizing tours to Cù Lao Câu island. Furthermore, experiencing diverse coral reefs with over 234 species, paddling on the sea with sup boards, enjoying seafood... are also captivating experiences.

Hòn Cau has no resident population, very few establishments, so tourists should prepare food, necessities, and camping gear if traveling independently to the island. If camping overnight, permission must be obtained from the authorities at the Cù Lao Câu border guard station. Upon approval, tourists can freely pitch tents, admire the clear moonlit sky, cool breeze on the island, and immerse themselves in the tranquility bestowed by nature.
