1. Banaue Terraces, Philippines
The Banaue Terraces are acknowledged by UNESCO as one of the magnificent wonders of the world. It takes approximately 10 hours by car from the capital Manila to reach here. Formed 2,000 years ago by the hands of Batad farmers, it is the 8th wonder of the ancient world.
In the past, the terraces were utilized for the largest rice terraces in the region but were later abandoned. Today, the terraces have been restored to their original glory. When in Banaue, travelers will explore the Bangaan villages at the foot of the hills. The best time to visit the terraces is from December to May.
2. Yuanyang Terraces, China
The encroachment of modernization is gradually infiltrating China, and terraced fields across the country are slowly being destroyed. Travelers from Shanghai to Tibet can catch glimpses of these terraced landscapes resembling beautifully natural scenery.
Yuangyang Terraces are crafted by the skillful hands of the Hami people. This is the main attraction of Xinjiezhen town. To admire these terraces from every angle, stand on a hilltop and look down. The best time to visit is from October to April.
3. Longji Terraces, China
Located in the northeast of Guangxi Province, near the villages of Jinkeng and Ping, the Longji Terraces were formed 800 years ago during the Yuan Dynasty in China. The terraces resemble an ancient painting created by the skilled hands of farmers. You can visit and enjoy this place at any time of the year, except from December to March due to cold and snowy weather.
To reach the terraces, it takes a 2-hour drive from Longsheng town and a 12-hour drive from Nanning. This 14-hour journey allows you to discover many mysteries of these terraced fields.
