Crystal-clear streams flow over rocky beds amidst the forest, the azure expanse of the lake, the Mường people's stilt houses faintly visible on both shores amidst the evening mist... This is the captivating allure of Chiếu Village, Mường Thải commune, Phù Yên district, Sơn La.
Enchanting Charm of Chiếu Village

A mix of unfamiliar emotions and intriguing sensations, the land and sky have conspired to make our exploration an unforgettable journey.
The Tale of the Mountain Lake
After a journey of over 140km from Hanoi, guided by a friend teaching in Phù Yên, we ventured into the lands of Mường Thải. Traversing a newly opened road still bearing the marks of the devastating floods of October, we finally arrived at Chiếu Village.
The vast orchards of oranges in Mường Thải stand out as the largest in Phù Yên district. While not visually striking, the Mường Thải sweet oranges are exquisitely flavorful, making them a favored gift among travelers. As we meandered along, engaging in lively conversation, we reached the tail end of the lake, where everyone began boarding boats to explore Chiếu Stream. The deeper we ventured, the clearer and colder the water became. The stream flowed gracefully among the rugged rocks, with large boulders dotting its smooth surface, providing delightful spots for tourists to rest and admire the scenery. On scorching days, Chiếu Stream becomes an oasis of refreshing coolness for both tourists and locals alike.
Encountering Wildlife Amidst the Wilderness
As the afternoon waned, we decided to rent motorbikes to cruise along the lakeside road. It was a delightful surprise to join forces with a group of anglers who had also come here to fish. We struck up a conversation with Minh Quang, a 30-year-old angler with nearly a decade of construction experience in Sơn La.
During his leisure time, Quang often rides his motorbike with friends for dozens of kilometers to fish at Suối Chiếu Lake. Quang shared, 'The scenery here is breathtaking, free from crowds. So, whenever we have a weekend off or a day of rest, we gather and head out to fish. Sometimes, we spend the whole afternoon and catch only one or two fish, but we still thoroughly enjoy ourselves.'
To find a perfect spot to admire the beautiful, untouched wilderness, Quang and his friends often park their motorbikes and hire a boat to venture deep into the lake. Being a veteran member of the group, Quang is well-versed in the secrets of Suối Chiếu Lake.
Quang shared with us anecdotes of anglers catching grass carp weighing up to 15kg in this area, with 8-10kg fish being quite common. Black carp are also occasionally caught or spotted. There have even been sightings of carp weighing up to 13kg, along with an abundance of catfish, carp, and rohu swimming in the depths.
